Hi, wondering if someone can give some insight into any potential problems that may arise given my current situation.

I have a boyfriend in the US who I would like to bring to Canada. His situation is that he has been in the US illegally for over 10 years. He does have his Mexican passport. He crossed the border into the US illegally a few times in the last 20 years. One time, he was caught trying to enter illegally and sent back to Mexico. To my knowledge, he doesn't have a criminal record other than driving without a licence.

What type of problems should we be aware of when applying for spousal sponsorship? I am thinking we will get married soon, after he leaves the US and returns to Mexico before coming to Canada. Then I will submit a sponsorship application for him. Does he face any issues of getting into Canada as my spouse, given his illegal status in the US and previous issues with that country?

Thank you

Hi

Provided he fully declares everything, including all illegal activities, it is not a reason for refusal. Make sure you have strong relationship proofs.
