Hi guys, we have received our AIP in July but the online status remains IP for Sponsorship and AR for PR application status. It's been almost a month, is it normal that the online status has not been updated?

Also, we went ahead and did our upfront medical, should we expect to see a "Medical report received" status some time soon? Thanks in advance!
My status still reads "Application received" (also AIP in July)- I am sleeping a lot better since I just decided to not wonder about them not updating in and just wait it out. I have too many other things to do instead of going crazy over the PR process. I think they are just not very adamant about keeping up with the updates.

Hi Inland.

Yes, this is how it looked until OWP was approved. And Yes the work permit application number starts with a "W"

After OWP was approved the Open part went to Closed.

Then a note saying we had a message to check and when we checked there was a letter indicating that the OWP was approved and would be mailed to us.

After that the Closed became Approved.

We received the work permit in the mail the following week.

Process took 110 days (from receipt to approval in GC Key).

Thank you browning911 it's very detailed information.

Thank you vaya! And I agree. I'm checking weekly now, but honestly if they don't regularly update I will stop worrying over these things.. as long as we've got the letters, surely we are truly AIP'd. :)

Do any of you guys know how long a medical is valid for and police certificates as well? I sent my application in on Feb 3rd and it was received Feb 5th. I received AOR on 13th April and then my OWP on 3rd June (bang on the 4 month mark). Since then I have not heard a peep from CIC or my lawyer representatives. I emailed my lawyers about linking my application online as I tried it but because I have a representative they have to do it. Anyway I also rang CIC last week and they informed me they have not requested any information or sent out any further correspondence (which I see as a good thing). I forgot to ask if I was part of the sped up processing of the backlog. Do you think I should call them back and ask or just sit tight? I am concerned that by the time I am due to be processed my police certificate and medical will no longer be valid and have to pay for them again which will suck but suppose that is the risk I took sending them in with my application.
Crais, I think the medical is valid for a year but CIC can, if they choose to, extend the validity. Not sure about the police certificate, I guess if you have not traveled back to the countries where you obtained them then CIC can also decide to not request a new one. Not sure about that.

I would send them a case specific enquiry advising that it was included in the application and if you kept a copy of the police report you should scan it and include that with the case specific enquiry.

Some people on this forum have said that was the case with them. I would call CIC at 1 888 242 2100.

Have anybody tried getting ohip with open work permit in toronto ?
Can you share your experiences ?
We have not tried yet because we were told that in order to qualify the employer must state that you will be employed full time for no less than 6 months. You must provide a letter from your employer indicating that you will be employed full time for no less than six months and bring it to Service Canada to apply for OHIP.

Correction: You will be employed for no less than 6 months

Forum members have reported that it takes a while for the application status to update. Some have even said that even after they landed that their sponsorship application still showed "In process".

Mia, if you have a GC Key account at CIC, then it should show up there. We did the medical at the end of June and it should up as "Medical: Passed" in our GC Key account this week.

CIC changed it's rules on Police certs. As long as your Police certificates are obtained after you left the country concerned..there is no expiry...I doubted this little gem, but my background check is in progress right now and my police cert was nearly a year old when I sent off the application, when they started processing it was 13 months old, so that kind of proves the point. I was planning to request a new one (takes 5 weeks from the UK and you can do the entire application online) as soon as processing on the sponsor started, this cert was just to "tick the box" so to speak to get the app off going on the old advice of "they like police certs to be within 3 months of the application date, and certificates are only valid for a year".

This is copied straight from the CIC website:

Who needs a police certificate?
In general, you and all the people in your family who are 18 or older need to get a police certificate. You must get one from each country or territory where you have spent six or more months since the age of 18. For example:

if you visited, worked or lived in a country for two months, left for a few years, then returned for four months, that counts as spending six months there. In this case, you would need a certificate.
For the country you currently live in, the police certificate must be issued no more than six months before you apply. This does not apply to us, being inland and already being in Canada

For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country.

If your certificate is in a language other than English or French, send it when you apply, along with the original copy of a translation done by a certified translator.

If you are Inland and you do not leave Canada since having the medical then your medical results do not expire either, the doctor that did my immigration medical told me that one.

It's not that you have been employed for 6 months, it is that you will be employed for no less than 6 months. So you could probably ask your employer for that letter right away.

But aside from that OHIP seems like a real bastard. If you have a work permit but can't find a job you are out of luck? That's rough. Once you get to AIP though, you can apply regardless.
