Hello 2016 inlanders,

My application was received by CIC April 7th 2016 and AOR on May 7th 2016.
But when I check the status of my application on CIC.gc.ca it still says "Application Received".
When should I expect a status change to "In Process"?

I sent an OWP application along with PR, and I haven't linked my accounts yet.

Work permit hasn't arrived yet.
If you are lucky, a year. Most of the time they don't really bother updating it. Sometimes they will update it a day before they ask for something from you again. Just look for timelines in google docs for a general idea of when you should receive things.

the timelines on the spreadsheets give a good insight as to when you might get next steps like someone else that has sent in the app around your time period. I've been watching the timelines and some people who are basically on the same time frame as me basically helped me stay calm an expectant when I was waiting for AOR's 1 & 2.

Thank you Zumbagirl, Erable_Rouge and Botengcoke.

I thought about you, Botengcoke, when we got ours and I was hoping that you would tell us you also received yours. It is almost here.

Why don't you call CIC first thing in morning and check up on it. Tell them it has been 4 months are you just want to check in. That's what I said when I called last week. The person I spoke to said "We received in on XX March and it is not 4 months yet." I also called back the next day to verify.

We received the OWP approval notification in MyCIC, which I am addicted to checking. I have not received it in mail. Not sure how long the mail will take.

Question: We need to send upload our updated Notice of Assessment Option C printout. Can someone please provide link for uploading documents on CIC website? Thanks in advance. I forgot where to go to upload.

Hi Guys,

I would like to link my application on paper to my online account. I tried but it is asking me for a English language test (which i dont have) and also the category doesnt seem to match, Can someone help me? Also, since I lived in the US i requested my fingerprints to the FBI, they were returned since the quality of the prints was too low, so i sent them again. Has anyone encountered the same issue? Will it delay my application? Any information is appreciated
Thanks! :-*

I think all us inlanders hope for that bit of paper (OWP)...that leads to work/driving licence/health card, actually starting a life here...and not sitting around day after day annoying people on this forum! I actually have written to the immigration minister directly (hope it doesn't come back to bite me on the ass). My point was, A Temporary Foreign Workers partner is handed an open work permit at the border, also a students spouse, no waiting of any sort, yet a Canadians spouse applying Inland can wait up to 7 months for the "right" to work despite them being the one that will odds on be the sure-fire long term bet in terms of investing in Canada's future. In the interests of equality could the other categories partners be denied the right to obtain a work permit for 6 months, or could the Family spousal class be allowed to obtain their OWP at the border after AOR1?...taking the waiting time to weeks rather than months. This would level the playing field. I have, of course not received a reply.

Good on you CandianAlien. Sometimes the obvious needs to be pointed out and if no one is prepared to point it out there's no hope of it being changed.

Letter reproduced below:

Dear Sir,

I am currently the spouse of a Canadian Citizen and am currently in the process of applying for spousal sponsorship inland for permanent residency status. We applied on the 1st of June of this year and as of today's date our application has not even been looked at or even been shown as received. In the process of my application I applied for the Open Work permit and have been told I must wait 4 months for the same….why?

A Temporary workers spouse is issued, at port of entry, an open work permit for the same validity as the spouses work permit…no waiting…there and then.

A Students spouse is issued an open work permit at the border there and then…no waiting.

A Canadian Citizens Spouse is told to include an application for an open work permit with their PR application, which will sit unopened for 4 weeks in a mail room, at this point they start processing the application and issue the work permit 4 months later..

Canada is admired the world over for it’s equality…so can the other categories spouses be told to wait 4-5 months for their permits, or can the Canadian Spouses be allowed on Receipt of the AOR (acknowledgment of Receipt of application) to go to a border post and be issued with their work permit…taking that processing down to weeks rather than months?

Yours
CanadianAlien

Interestingly enough, I got my AOR's VERY quickly.....wonder if maybe they said, this ones trouble..rush him through...i can dream!

Hi guys ,

My wife was on visitor visa till now . We applied inland and now got open work permit . Do we have to apply for another TRV Called as workers TRV (on which its specified class W-1 instead of V-1 which is purely a visitor visa ? I think this will help her to travel easily then being on Visitor V1 TRV Visa .

Any suggestions or experiences ?

Come on now, this letter is a little much. Do you think that a worker's spouse just strolls through customs and immigration holding the hand of their lover, flash a marriage certificate and work permit is printed off right there? Please, they have to apply for it first, and not just any worker qualifies for such a permit for their spouse. I can understand your frustration with not being able to work immediately, but what do you expect? The Canadian government even took the step to start issuing these OWP in response to such frustration. I think it's a pretty good deal considering from an immigration perspective you came here one day as a tourist and now you have the option of staying forever, legally. How awesome is that? Surely you checked the approximate processing time frame for this immigration class when you applied. And lucky for you you landed in a period of backlog clearing so it couldn't have worked out better. Further to that, assuming you are from Scotland as your avatar implies, there were even more options available to you, such as an IEC working holiday visa and could have hit the ground running with a work permit already.
