Spouses of temporary residents can still claim the dependant spouse. There is a 11500 credit up for grabs. Have an accountant do it. CRA will likely demand proof (we sent a letter, a copy of an entry visa, an entry stamp and a marriage certificate).

hello everybody!

i am a august 2016 inland applicant. my husband is now going through the process of filling taxes forms for the tax return of last year.
ive been here in canada since august, and previous to that i was working in my country.
the question is:

should he file me as a dependent even though i am a temporary resident?

is anyone going through this process?
Yes he can claim you but he must also mention any 2016 income you had. You will have to fill out a World Income form (sorry do not know the form number)

Hey Guys,
I'm noticing under myCIC account that background verification has started for my wife. I am a November 2016 applicant. Not sure if this is something i should be excited :D.
please let me know your thoughts
Hey, I'm a November 2016 applicant too. I noticed the same in my account at the beginning of February 2017. I don't think its much to be excited about as I have heard background verification remains 'in progress' for somewhat the duration of the process. I could be wrong, as they say different strokes for different folks.

Hi everyone!

I know this is off topic but somehow related. My mom and two sisters want to visit me here in Calgary for just two weeks. Now my problem is, they are asking me for an invitation letter to help their tourist visa application. I have been searching for the right format of invitation letter but most of them needs me to state my status in Canada, I'm still waiting for the decision of spousal sponsorship. What should I put? And If I state on the letter that I'm still waiting for PR, would it be a negative impact on their application?

Thank you for those who will answer :)

well, it looks to me they are doing it in parallel, a definite positive sign.

Does anyone know if I do a medical exam out of my province if it will red flag my application? My wife and I are travelling throughout Canada and is difficult to get back home to do it.

Thanks

We did it for my wife's family two years ago. As, at that time, she was only on a student visa, I co-signed all letters of invitation. So, in your case, I would put your current status and ask your spouse to co-sign the invitation letter. If you want more details, you can send me a private message.

Hi, I'm inland as well, applied in April 2016 and I've been with background check "in progress" and medical "passed" since June 2016. Background check is the longest step. So far I got the OWP but no SA.

Currently, the time spent in Canada prior to PR does not count but you are right about the 1460 days in 6 years. However, C-6 Bill will modify the conditions to get citizenship. When the bill will finally be approved, each day prior to the PR will count as half a day (maximum 365 days). Then you have to have 1095 days over 5 years to apply for citizenship.
If, using half days, you have the max 365 days do you still need to wait until 5 with the new rule or would those half days bring it down to 4?
