Hi,
Me and my sponsor are expecting a baby. Should I notify CIC? Or only when the child is born?
Thank you.

Congrats on the new addition!

When the baby is born, unless you haven't done your medical yet... if you're the spouse carrying the child, you can't do the x-ray. That means they will hold your case until the medical is complete (they will do a partial until post-partum).

I had to provide a letter from my doctor confirming the pregnancy and due date with my application, but that's only cause I was already pregnant when sending in the application. So if you got pregnant after you submitted it I'm not sure you'd need to send that in ??

This waiting is killing me

Did you do the meds before pregnancy? If not, they will wait until the chest x-ray can be safely completed before finalising the case.

Nope, I'm the sponsor so no medical for me. I just meant that it might not hurt to notify them of the pregnancy with a doctor letter

Congrats either way on your family's new addition.

That's a totally different story. It is not required to notify CIC until after the child is born. They will request a birth certificate when you report the birth, which you cannot get until post-partum. The only real complication is with the chest x-ray. The CIC will find out about the pregnancy if they request a medical, and they get back a copy of IMM 5733 from the panel physician. It will delay the processing of the case, because they will wait until the child is born before completing the medical (and then you have a new dependant to add to the mix).

the way i understood the response the sponsor is the one who is pregnant; therefore there is no medical required or requested for the sponsor. the child will only need to be added to the application if the sponsor can not pass down canadian citizenship to the child. otherwise, like you suggested only proof of the birth and proof of canadian citizenship is required.

It was actually a side discussion that started with a PA who has become pregnant: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/spousal-sponsorship-inland-applications-2016-timeline-and-updates-t389295.0.html;msg5592341#msg5592341

Ok this got confusing fast lol. I just meant that there is a section on application IMM 5285 that asks whether either the sponsor or applicant are pregnant and asks for due date.

Yeah understood. But it was a slightly different scenario. For the sponsor, they don't have the medical to worry about. For the OP (who is a Principal Applicant), she would have the medical to worry about. If the information on the spreadsheet is correct and up-to-date, then she may not have already completed those. That's why it was mentioned.

Otherwise, CIC really only needs to know when the baby is born (and you can submit the birth certificate). Notifying them on the forms before filing is OK too, because then as you pointed out, they will just ask for the Doctor's name and due date.

It appears to be boycotting me. So, it's a retaliatory boycott. DOWN WITH THE SYSTEM!

Truth be told, it's pretty much useless. It's telling me nothing new anymore. That update you are seeing, is someone made a small page update on eCAS. There was nothing to do with cases.

Yes Profiler, I agree. Pretty useless. It gives even less than GCKey.

I mean... in theory no. But in practice, I cannot log into it from work. It's now associated to her ATM card/bank account. And I don't remember the numbers, or the security answers. If I really want to see it, I can just ask her to login for me. But yes, I am rationed.

LOL Aww....why did she do that? LOL

I am the one who checks my husband's.

She took it away so I wouldn't check it anymore. See, I think that might be the ultimate interview question ^^
"What's your spouse's bank card number? Name 3 of the security answers." Ya, I'd be sunk for sure if that was the case. What side of the bed do we sleep on, etc, that's all easy.
