I may have asked this question before...

Where can I view the status of a work permit application ? Or is it just a waiting game until it shows up
I keep seeing mentions of linking accounts and what not, is that really necessary ? One of the clauses is that all communication will be sent to that web portal and not by mail anymore....not sure how I feel about that

Guyanagirl, do you have a GCKey? You can go to www.cic.gc.ca and create a GCKey and then link the OWP application to the GCKey. You can also link the PR application to the same GCKey.

So has anyone tried to change a surname during the process?

We decided to wait until the whole process is completed. Don't want any more confusion. :-X

Our immigration lawyer (that we consulted with before deciding to proceed on our own) suggested either before or after.

So, in your case browning911, I am assuming you would take his name? Or does he want to take yours?

If you take his, it's pretty easy.

I have spent some time reading up on name changes tonight, and I have come to learn some stuff... that's why I thought I would canvas the group to see what everyone's experience was here...

I have sent a CSE (YUP! MORE FRUSTRATION AHEAD FOR ME!) tonight to ask them to direct us on the surname change for my wife....

Apparently, Canadian docs might be able to have a different surname than the original docs submitted from the country of origin... we quizzed them and will keep everyone posted on the (lack of) progress in this regard..

Of course I will... I know the 2016 crew likes to have a laugh every once in a while :)

Here is what you need to change your surname: https://www.ontario.ca/page/change-your-last-name . And just advise CIC when you do it. Should be pretty straight forward... heh...

For those interested, here is the blurb on Name Change Requests: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/id/name/change.asp

If you married in Canada, that serves as one of the documents that qualifies for CIC to change a surname... lucky for us we did!

Just wanted to give everyone a little info for my timeline! I applied for PR and OWP and included all of my medical exam stuff!

Application packet received in Mississauga: June 28, 2016.
1st AOR: July 18, 2016.
OWP issued: October 18, 2016.

I have been in contact with my city's MP's office which has provided me with so much info! They actually gave me a date for my OWP, which was 10/21. SO long story short, OWP's are actually coming FASTER than the four month wait time! Only three months in between 1st AOR and issuing OWP for me. Hopefully this helps someone or provides a little hope! OWP's ARE coming faster than anticipated even though it seems they never will arrive ;)

GOOD LUCK to those still waiting! Contact your city's MP's office, they have access to so much information and can provide it for you unlike a call to CIC.
Congrats on getting your OWP yesterday! The count actually starts from the day CIC received your application...so still around 4 months time in your case.
Do you mind if I add your timeline to the spreadsheet? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Yn3BFzI4q4xAy4EW3pG4CgQz9o3EzF5b18_tcSJwBhA/edit#gid=130501564

Passport Canada (a CIC department) got me a brand new passport in 5 calendar days -- no extra fees paid...

That's pretty easy to do... but let's be realistic, it's nothing like what it takes to assume a name in Eastern Europe (Belarus, Russia, Ukraine). Those poor people have to wait 30 days for Ministry of Internal Affairs to issue a new internal passport (*IF* they feel your marriage certificate is enough to cause a change), then wait another week to set up a new Tax ID! Here it's dead simple...

When I was researching before we applied, all of the forums I read said it's always easier before you apply or after you land. I changed mine on all documents and then applied. Less stress. :)

Well, from what I read tonight, if the change happens in Canada, CIC just has to acknowledge it (which they have our Ontario Marriage Cert. -- one of the docs they accept as a change). That means any further documents issued by CIC will possess the new surname.

So, the theory is, they should email me in 10 days (BAHAHAAHH!!!) and tell me that the name change is complete, or that they want her to sign something or whatever. We will see what practice looks like. because our poor kids will have a ridiculously long hyphenated surname otherwise...

;D Good luck! Hope it goes smooth! I just wanted my background check and documents to all have same name when we applied--all of my docs were from the USA. and didn't want to hang on to my maiden name for the suggested 28 months (current processing time according to CIC when I applied).

Hello everyone!

I've requested my application notes like a week ago and, surprisingly, next day got email with an interview invitation  with 6 day notice only!!!! I know that usually most people get 10-14 days notice. Any thoughts weather it's coincides or something is up?...

My in-land application timeline:
App received - 24 April 2015
Started processing - 19 June 2015
OWP - 29 July 2015
Medical - July 2016
SA - October 2016
Interview email - 21 October 2016 with appointment on 27 October

Process' been very smooth, never got any additional requests from CIC

Any advice/ experience on in-land landing interview in Calgary?

Thank you all!
