Hi everybody. I just got an email from CIC stated that "It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence as a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class. Please note that a final decision will not be made until all remaining requirements for becoming a permanent resident have been met. These requirements include medical, security and background checks for you and, if applicable, all of your family members, both in Canada and abroad, even if they are not applying to join you in Canada at this time".
Can anyone help explain what stage of my application now and what should I do next ? Will the next mail I reveive be decision made ? I already sent medical report with my initial application. Thanks so much for your help.
Congratulations, this is your AIP (approval in principle). You can now register (if not already done) to the public health coverage of your province (OHIP, RAMQ and likely those from other provinces as well).
The next step is indeed your decision made letter.

inland sponsorship for my spouse.

AIP (or from reading In this forum I’m assuming AIP) received November 6th via Canada Post on the 8th. Also decision made on both sponsor and PR application.

Does this seem positive to anyone?

1. Application received June 17th, 2016

2. Eligibility requirements reviewed. We don’t need any additional documents.

3. Medical results successful.

4. We don’t need an interview.

5. No fingerprints needed at this time.

6. We are processing your background check.

Any answers would be appreciated this is my 3rd time posting on this site but no answer I think I’m posting the wrong way or something. That or everyone hates me haha!
Best of luck everyone!!!

100% sure positive unless you tell me you received a procedural fairness letter before (stating they are about to refuse your application and asking to provide additional proofs). If you haven't received such a letter and you see decision made on both side on ECAS, it's 100% positive. AIP are usually sent via email, so If you got it via regular mail, it's likely that you will receive the DM letter and landing appointment letter via regular mail as well. I suspect there might be a typo in the email of the principal applicant, maybe call CIC to check if they have the correct email.

AIP is a letter saying: "It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence as a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class..."

Depending on your location, you should receive the landing invitation in 1-8 weeks after you see DM on both sides on ECAS. Etobicoke and Montreal will be closer to the 8 weeks...

Ok awesome! We got that letter saying we meet eligibility but it was in the post lol! All emails are correct as we have sent other correspondence via email before. Thanks for the quick reply!!! I was shocked to see decision made but no access to what that may be!

The only way would be to cancel your refugee claim, Request to have your passport back, and if you have a a visa that allows you to re enter Canada. Otherwise there is no other way. if you cant get a visa, you can withdraw both applications and apply outland.

You'd have to withdraw your refugee claim as @sweet_mahsa said, then you can get your passport back. If they know there is a spousal sponsorship application in play, you can request an administrative deferral to avoid deportation. If you don't withdraw, they would see you travelled home, and nullify your case (unsure the process here, but if you returned, then it must be safe enough, no?).

Generally speaking, you could leave Canada for a short duration (most say less than a month; but that's subjective based on the officer's tolerance) without having your inland sponsorship refused, because you didn't remain in Canada.

To return to Canada, you will require a visitor visa to be able to re-enter. Given the refugee claim, I would hazard a guess to say, they will likely give you a very difficult time at the border. My guess is they would likely refuse entry.

So, that's the bad -- sorry about that, but it's important that I provide a realistic perspective.

Now, the good:. I'm guessing you're almost done. Once you land, you get your PR Card in ~61 days. You can leave immediately after. If you cannot wait the 61 days, the landing officer can explain to you how to apply for a PR Travel Document (PRTD). It has to be done overseas.

Given your advanced stage (considering you applied sometime in 2016), I would say you're close to being done. There is no fast forward button, or means to get expedited processing.

I am assuming you can't just board a flight tomorrow, assuming you had your passport. So, I might suggest someone brings a cell phone or tablet to the hospital so you can Skype. Or something to fill the gap of time until you can return.

If you get stuck and have to leave and cannot return, your file will be refused, and you'll likely have no choice but to apply Outland.

Lastly, I don't envy your situation. I hope for a speedy recovery for your sister. In the end, we are all family, and family is all we can really count on.

Call CIC to ask why the snail mail. Yes it's positive. Email is the fastest way to get a landing invite. So call tomorrow.

And Congrats!
