Hi guys! I'm expecting my PR in the coming months (AOR - Nov 2020).

I'm a single applicant from Brazil. However, I'm going to get married in September. I would have the choice to add her now but 1) I don't have enough funds to add her and 2) that would delay my application even more.

So, as soon as I get the PR, I plan to do the soft landing and come back to Brazil, get married and then we plan to go to Canada and I can sponsor her from there.

The problem is: she will need a tourist visa so she can go with me to Canada. So I have a few questions that concern me:

1) She doesn't own anything, doesn't have funds, has no jobs, and is finishing college. How can we prove that she has "ties" with Brazil?
2) Immigration officers are going to see in the file that she is married to a PR (me). Should we write a letter explaining something? What should we write? Any experiences?

Any other ideas of what we might do are appreciated. I'm really lost, don't know what's the best way to approach this.

Yes, she'll need a visa.

1) Yep, that's a problem.
2) Yep, that's a problem.

There's no easy way to fix this. There are lots of threads discussing how to show, but if she doesn't have ties, it will be pretty obvious.

If you get married before landing in Canada and becoming a PR, then it is mandatory that you add her to your application. You have no other choice. If this happens, you will have to submit the additional paperwork to add her to your application. She will also need to provide PCCs, pass a medical, etc. You should expect this will delay your application by at least four months, most likely longer. Again, it is mandatory you add her to your application if you get married before becoming a PR. If you fail to do so, you'll never be able to sponsor her.

If you get married after you become a PR, then you'll need to sponsor her. You'll need to be living in Canada in order to do so. She can try applying for a TRV however it may be quite difficult for her to be approved if she lacks ties, has no job and no assets. Another option is to consider coming to Canada on a study permit as an international student if she has the funds. Either way, there's no guarantee a TRV or study permit would be approved and there's certainly a risk you may be separated while the sponsorship application is processed.

If you want to avoid being separated, get married now and add her to your application. That's basically the choice you're facing.

Yeah, that's a hard a choice. If I get married now and add her, do I need to show funds for 2 people instead of one?
