Hi everyone,

I am a PR holder got it last year in May. I have been in the country for last 7-8 months now. My long term boyfriend (about 6 years now) had already moved here on Study permit in 2016. He is now a graduate and is working full-time at a company. His study permit expires in Jan 2019. We are planning to marry now and would like to apply for the spousal sponsorship.

Can anyone help in giving an overview with regards to the process time, steps and benefits of doing it now. We are yet to marry but soon will be involving parents in the process and marry. Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks in advance.

I suggest reviewing the application process on the CIC website and whatever's unclear to you, post your questions here.

You can expect the processing time to be around 12 months.

Yes, check the website in full and decide what's best for you based on what your projection of your dynamics is. I mean applying from within or out of Canada as you have different benefits from each type of application.

Ok I just saw you're applying inland. So you'll be able to get an OWP as well.
If you've already lived together for a year you can apply as common law. It's kind of the same as married as you still have to submit proof of same address and joint bills accounts etc. The sooner the better do its all done I think
