Hi all,

My fiancé and I are having our wedding ceremony next month and will be sending in our in land application for sponsorship as soon as we receive our marriage certificate (4-6 weeks after the ceremony). Unfortunately my first visitor extension will expire in early Oct. Got a few questions and would very much like your advice here:

1. Would a proof of marriage & the intention of applying for sponsorship be sufficient for the approval of the extension?

OR

2. Would paying for the sponsorship application first and including the receipts in the extension along with proof of marriage give me a better chance of getting extension approved?

Really worried and nervous as I would be applying for the extension after the 30 day rule

There is no 30 day rule. It's only a guideline. Perfectly normal to apply for an extension with fewer than 30 days remaining.

#1 should be fine for the extension. Include a bank statement from your sponsor and yourself (if possible) to show that you have funds to continue to support yourself in Canada as a visitor.

So, I ended up having to apply to extend my stay here after we had gotten married because getting all our paperwork together took longer than expected. When I extended my visitor visa, I explained to them that I was in the process of sending in sponsorship paperwork and we were, at the time, waiting on my FBI stuff. They extended my stay by I wanna say it was 3-4 months with no problem.

I filled out and sent in my extension paperwork about 2 days before my 6 months in Canada was up and was here with implied status for about a month before I got the official extension for my visitor visa.

Thank you for the reply! What was the length of stay you asked for in your extension? I would like to ask for 5-6 months or should I just request a shorter amount of stay (3-4 months) since I’ll be submitting OWP in sponsorship application either ways?

I honestly can't remember how long I asked for but I am thinking it was somewhere between 4-6 months. They got my paperwork on Jan 23rd and it was approved March 17th and my visitor visa was extended through April 30th
