Hello Everyone..

can anyone suggest what to do with my situation please.
My husband already submitted papers to CIC last month.
All my documents including passport is my maiden name.
My question is that is it okay if I will change my passport name to married name while waiting for CIC to process my PR?

yes, you are going to want to get it done sooner rather than later. as soon as you get your new passport, all you will need to do is send a copy of the bio page to CIC. once you receive the sponsor eligibility letter, you will receive directions about how to send documentation to your visa office. i suggest waiting until then to send it.

so i can change my passport now? and if CIC will request my passport i will send new passport?
its okay even if the name i used filling papers that i submitted is my maiden name?

2. yes, you have to send the new passport when it's requested, which will be the only one valid for travel, i would think. more likely than not, your old passport will be cancelled upon the issuance of the new one. and i recommend sending an updated copy as soon as you get your new passport, not just wait for them to request it.
3. yes. it doesn't matter. in reality, you are known by your maiden name and married name. your married name may not have any records, yet your maiden name might. this is why when you get a record, they specifically ask "have you ever gone by another name other than the one provided?" this is something that happens quite often. changing your name will not delay the process, unless you neglect to send in a copy of your new passport before they issue your approval papers.

thank you ,.. but Im also wondering how will I send my passport bio page once I already renewed it.
The papers that we sent is not yet aknowledge, CIC received our papers last July 15, we are expecting Receipt of acknowledgement by September 10.

again, you will need to wait until the sponsor receives the sponsorship eligibity letter. in that letter there will be specific instructions about how to contact your visa office. you do NOT need to do anything about it until then. there is no point in trying to send it to mississauga, because your application is not opened yet, and it's very unlikely they will be able to attach it properly. right now, just relax and wait until you get instructions about contacting your visa office. it will be fine.
