Hello,
I recently became a permanent resident in Canada. I also got married after becoming a PR to my 10 years long girlfriend. She is in canada at the moment with a PGWP which expires in december. I will be sponsoring her for pr and also would like to apply for a spousal open work permit. Will it be an issue to get an open work permit extension under spousal pilot program after the PGWP?

Hi

At any point before you became a PR, did you and your partner live together continuously for a year?

Hey Yes. She used to rent the basement at my brother's place. The pleace we lived in was owned by my brother and my sister in law. Why should it be an issue?

All family members must be examined (i.e. medical, security & background check).

If you lived together for a year or more before you became a PR, then you were required to add her to your application before landing an officially becoming a PR (so that she could go through the medical, background & security check). If you were in fact common law and you failed to add her to your application before landing, this prevents you from ever sponsoring her in the future.

Ah - looks like it may be even worse that that. Based on your posting history - you received PR as a dependent (your parents were sponsored by your brother). If that's the case, you were no longer a dependent by virtue of being in a common law relationship and therefore no longer qualified to receive PR along with your parents. So if you try to sponsor your girlfriend, it may result in your own PR status being revoked since you obtained it falsely.

Did you in fact immigrate as a dependent in your parent's application? And did you live with your girlfriend for a year or more before becoming a PR? These are the two key questions.
