Hello, I think I remember seeing on the CIC website that, as of this year, they no longer require interviews for the spousal sponsorship application, but it was an update flag a while ago, so I can't really find it on the website now. Does anyone know if this is true?

We just got the letter stating my husband's application to be my sponsor was approved, and they requested my passport (which seems to be the last step before the interview, I already submitted biometrics and a physical several months ago). It's been a year to the day since we first submitted the application, and their timeline is 12 months, so the timing adds up to us getting the interview -- if this is still required. I'd be fine doing it, of course, I am just a bit nervous since there is an age gap between us, and I read that is a major red-flag (but we are emotionally very similar, and I've always been with older guys even before I met him). We also applied as common-law partners (since we were when applying) and a few months ago, we got married (with our family and friends) for us, but haven't sent the marriage certificate to the CIC, since they consider common-law and marriage to be the same. Should we send them the marriage certificate? The ceremony was just for us, and it doesn't change our status as far as the application is concerned.

I saw a YouTube video of a woman who said thy were basically just asked three q's: do you have kids, have you ever committed a crime, and have you ever been forcibly removed from Canada, so I'm wondering if this is the new "interview" step, given my shaky recollection of the website update -- or if we should be preparing for an invasive questionnaire of ourselves as a couple? Thanks.

I believe u think it’s a relationship interview, but it’s not! It’s a landing interview. Don’t worry!

Hi

Not sure where you read that but IRCC certainly does interviews for spousal apps when they have concerns/suspicions. As you have received PPR, an interview is highly unlikely at this point.

The questions you are referring to are standard questions asked of every person when they land as a PR.

Thank you both for your responses, we applied in-land, so I don't think a "landing" interview is applicable to me, as I have been living here since the beginning. I could very easily be mistaken with my recollection, especially as I can no longer find the text I thought I saw. Maybe it said something along the lines of "interviews will no longer be mandatory for all spousal sponsorship applications" if they were always required in the past -- or I could have just misunderstood something else entirely. Either way, thank you both for clearing things up for me!

in-land applicants get landing interviews in immigration offices with an appointment. Outland don't get that interview. They land at border crossing with their passport/COPR.
