I thought the 84 days was when they would look at it, if so then they are about 7 days slow which isn't bad really.

My theory comes from the fact that my application first stage takes 11 months and they are working on april 30th 2011. If it went on the basis of thats what they look at plus 11 months I wouldn't be hearing anything for the next 4 years which I know isn't the case as I was told my whole application will be complete by 2014.

So everyone needs to calm down a little, it's out of our hands, but in my understanding when they receive your application it will be 84+ days (depending) when they will process your first stage.

I know, but if we look at the website, and going by how long it's taking to process the Jan applicants, we must be ready for a lengthy approval process (stage 1).

How will they possibly get to us April applicants in 84 days if they are still working on Jan 17? If you do the math, it seems impossible.

I sure hope not! I want to get home ASAP...but I think it is important to prepare for the worst...that way, if they do process faster than expected, it won't be a huge let down.

Well, there's so much misinformation in here, I took the time to register to sort a few things out. First of all, the page that shows the processing times is updated ONCE A WEEK. So it is totally normal that you will see the same day being processed for at least a week. It's not because they're processing only one day worth of applications in seven or more days, it's because the website is not updated frequently.

Second thing, the delay for STEP 1 does include week-ends... so when it says 75 days, it actually means 75 days total, not 75 week days. The countdown starts the day they RECEIVED the package, not the day you sent it.

Now, there's something happening at CIC and the process seems to be disrupted. A friend of mine who also lives in Montreal got his STEP 1 in about 75 days. They received my application on february 2nd, and at that time the average processing time for STEP 1 was 55 days... and the website showed they were processing january 30th... now it recently went backward, processing time was 85 days and they're processing january 17th. Today they're back to an even older version and it says processing time is 75 days. I'm not sure what's happening over there right now but they received my application 75 days ago and I still have not heard from them. Their web page update is also pretty random, falling back to older versions.
