Sponsorship Questions

Hello, so i am not sure where to begin i have read a lot but it is confusing to me.
I am an American, living and working in Seattle. I am getting married to my fiance, who is a Canadian. She used to work in Seattle we met here, but she moved back for family reasons. She currently has no job, and is just living with her parents until they get everything sorted out. She wants to stay in Canada so that she can be with her family. We are getting married soon and I have been reading about spousal sponsorships, and I am not sure what we have to do.

I know that we would file for outland so that i can keep working here and i could travel back and forth to visit her, and she could come down here, only for 2 weeks at a time max i have read.
If she gets approved to sponsor me does that mean that i can move there right away and i get a work permit? What does the fact that she can sponsor me actually mean?
I'm not really sure how this works or what forms we have to fill out. Any info and advice would be so helpful
Thanks in advance.

Have you read the CIC website? Start here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp

Also, the first thread in this forum is very useful to explain things.

Have a read of Leon's first post in the thread at the top of this forum? It's an excellent summation of the process.

I did read that so i know what i have to fill out now.
What does her being my sponsor do? Do i get a work permit and i can move there, what happens exactly?

You need to read slower, you will see more detail....

Look at inland vs outland, check the differences :)

OK so it says if we get to the first stage of approval, usually I will be eligible for health care and an open work permit, that was under inland, does it apply for both?

no. the open work permit/healthcare is only for inland. basically, that's the primary "pro" for inland. the "cons" are that it's slower, and there is no right to appeal.

likewise, outland's pro's: faster, right to appeal. outland's con's: no open work permit/healthcare while waiting.

Ok well that makes sense,
So, if we apply outland and she is able to sponsor me, then i stay living and working in seattle until i get pr status?
Is that how it works?

Correct. However, if your circumstances permit, i.e. you have enough savings and can afford private insurance, you can go visit with her until the process is finalised. This does not mean you can pack up your kit and caboodle and move over, you are "visiting" not moving in. You need to maintain enough ties to the US to convince border officials you are not flouting the proper procedures.

If you decide to go visit once the process is in place, have proof of paying the fees and submitting the application etc, and it's a good idea for your sponsor to travel with you and do the talking.

As a PR, you MUST be residing in Canada in order to sponsor anyone, including a child. If CIC find you are not residing in Canada, they will deny the application. Visits are allowed, leaving the country for months on end is not.
