Sponsorship Question - Canadian Citizen -> Vietnam Spouse

Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen but born in Hong Kong. I do not have my HK birth certificate or my Canadian Record of Landing Certificate due to fire long ago. I still have my citizen ship card though (plastic and looks like car license). I'm reading up on the requirements on my side and noted:

Documents Required of the Canadian Fiance

Original Affidavit of Marriage Status (valid for 3 months from the date of issue) issued in Canada or by the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam.
Original valid Canadian passport
Original birth certificate
Original death certificate of deceased spouse if widowed
Original divorce decree or annulment papers if divorced
Marriage search
Medical certificate

What can I do to provide this requirement? If anyone can help I would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I called an immigration consulting firm and they said the birth certificate/landing paper is not necessary and that my Citizenship card + passport is enough to verify my status.

Now I can proceed to continue with my application with a clear mind.

No, you don't need to send your birth certificate... I never sent in my birth certificate and I went through Singapore VO also.

I agree though, consultants are idiots... you can get better answers from users on this forum.

I guess your asking about what documents you need to get married in Vietnam?

If so, you can get your medical certificate done in Vietnam... its something that you and your fiancee needs to do plus if you get it done in Vietnam than you don't need to get it translated to Vietnamese. The medical exam in Vietnam was really stupid... they just asked me and my wife a couple of simple questions just to make sure we are mentally ok, didn't do any physical medical examination.

Thank you so much for the comments. The list I posted up was just a rough note of what I assume I would need on my side of things to get an official marriage certificate in Vietnam. So you guys would suggest I get my medical in Vietnam instead of Canada?

Also, I do not have my birth certificate or landing papers anymore. All was lost due to a house fire. Luckily, I still have my Canadian Citizenship card that was issued to me when I was little.

I honestly have no clue what I need to do to get married in Vietnam and to qualify with a high success to sponsor my wife, which is why I posted this thread in hopes of finding some guidance. Any help or pointers of where to look would be greatly appreciated.

Or just share you experience in general. Thank you ever so much

Since each government office in each Vietnam city works slightly differently, I think your best bet is to get your wife to call the actual Vietnamese office that she will be submitting all the marriage documents to and ask them exactly all the documents she will need if she will be marrying a foreigner.

When I married my wife in Tra Vinh, I think I only had to submit the following for my side:
- medical certificate
- certified photocopy of my passport
- statement in lieu of certificate of non impediment to marriage
- some passport sized photos

Note that any Canadian documents that I submitted also needed to get stamped at the Vietnamese foreign services office in Ho Chi Minh. I think it would be easier to get your medical certificate done in Vietnam just because they can provide exactly the kind of document the Vietnamese government needs, you don't need to get it translated to Vietnamese, its relatively cheap and you can get it done in one day.
