I read that

STEP 3.PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION
You may have to provide fingerprints, photos or a letter from Canadian immigration authorities explaining why you need a police certificate. Your local police or RCMP may be able to tell you where you can get fingerprints taken.
Take Appendix B and your photo identification (passport, travel document, etc.) with you when you go to get fingerprints taken. You may have to pay a fee.

I'm from the states, has anyone else had to do this? Or am I fine with just sending in the Appendix A? The Request for Police Certificate/Clearance and Authorization for Release of Information.

Or will immigration notify me as to weather or not they will need fingerprints?

Also:

For each country in which you or your family members have lived for more than six months during the past 10 years, you must provide a police certificate, clearance or record of no information. If you or your family members were under 18 years of age when you lived there, you do not need to provide a police certificate. It is your responsibility to contact the police or relevant authorities.

I turned 18 in North Carolina and lived there from age 3 and half to age 18. The paragraph above seems to contradict its self. I'm a little confused, I wish there was a dummies guide to all this. (sigh)
I'm getting a little confused about what you are asking. For the FBI certificate, you must have your fingerprints done in order to obtain the certificate. What the form is trying to tell you is that you must tell the FBI why you need them. AND you must also tell the company/agency who is preparing the fingerprint card why you need them. Taking Appendix A of the Region Specific Guide for the United States with you when you get your fingerprints done should be sufficient. Also, including it in your request to the FBI should be sufficient. Do you understand now?

I am not sure which guide you are reading at the moment but you need to read the general one here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3999E.pdf and read this one for the US. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3910e.pdf

Regarding your second question, I'm not sure what you don't understand or how it contradicts itself. It's saying to need to provide a police certificate for every country you lived in for 6 months or more since the age of 18. If that is only the USA then you only need the FBI certificate. If they want state police certificates, they will ask for them at a later date. If you are confused about "family members" that only means those who are eligible to be included in your application. In your case, that would be any dependant children you have.

Thank you for answering my questions, is it okay if I call immigration for questions about sponsorship and PR? Will they question me? Will I be asked to leave because I'm on TR? I'm scared of missing something and I don't want someone to represent me, I'd rather do this myself with some guildance that way if I am denied I at lest know I did everything I could. After reading about immigration consultants and how crocked they can be, I decided to not talk or hire one.

Can I go to a CIC office and have someone there help us fill out paper work? Or even pick up the right paper work for me? I noticed that applications for outland is different than inland, and I don't want to have the wrong forms.....gosh...this isn't easy and I dupt everything can be done in 5 months....

Hahahaha! They aren't all crooked. ;)

Yes, you can call the Call Centre and ask your questions. No, they won't question you and no, you won't be asked to leave because you are a visitor.

No, you can't go to the CIC office and have them help you with the forms. However, you can order the package to be delievered to you by mail. But really all you have to do is follow the links. All of the forms for INLAND are here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/spouse.asp

OUTLAND forms are here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

Thank you again! Why does the outland one have less forms? Or am I missing something?

There isn't a Medical Report [IMM 1017 is that the right form for me for outland?] or a Police Certificate/Clearance/fingerprints/photo form either

But thank you so much, I'm having some family members help me out, since I can send them the forms and they can review them for me via email.

The links here, don't seem to work.

us2canada.com

So I'm not sure if I have the right police certifcate. :/

Go to the link for the Outland forms and scroll down to the Regional Specific Guide for the United States. You need that as well. It has the checklist and the Medical form on it. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3910e.pdf

Instructions on how to obtain an FBI certificate are here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/united-states.asp

Make sure you go to the FBI link at the bottom of the page and read their instructions as well.

No idea. :) Not an immigration law question. But there are plenty of Americans who've married Canadians in Canada on this forum who can give you the answer to that. My instinct would be to ask or look it up at the Dept of Vital Statistics website for the province where you live.

I just married my Portuguese husband recently in Canada, we didn't have to fill out anything extra, just the normal marriage license.

No extra immigration papers, just the license and the marriage certificate (in Quebec).

Except if you marry in Ontario and are divorced, there is an extra step. http://www.ontario.ca/en/life_events/married/012202.html?openNav=before_you_get_married

Yes, I do hope so!

One last question for now. I'm trying to see if I can ask my other question(s) in the chat room on Loonlounge

When showing prof of our relationship, I have a professional picture of us taken from school, they do group pictures aside from the spring and fall ones.
I also have pictures of us at prom and graduation together. Not to mention I will have pictures of us at our wedding and possible honey moon.
I have old emails and chat logs, too. [how many should I print off?] We haven't been living together long enough to have any bills with both our names on it.
We may open up a bank account with both our names on it, but will the time that we opened it be a problem - a few days after we are married.

The prof that I've stated, will that be enough?

Photos of the two of you from school are good evidence. Any photos of the two of you together are good. If some of the prom and grad photos are candid shots of the two of you, include them. Candid shots are considered better than posed shots.

Good. Definitely take a honeymoon and get photos of it. For your wedding, try to get some photos that show how many guests are there - a shot of the whole crowd in the church and at the reception, or photos of the two of you with each table of guests at the reception. Visa officers often question the number of wedding guests people claim.
I have old emails and chat logs, too.
Show your inboxes from the whole relationship, showing all the emails. Then print out a selection from the beginning til now. Some people print one a week, others print out those emails showing them discussing their relationship. You don't need to send in every one - just add a note telling the visa officer you have more emails and will show them to him/her if they want. Same for chats - print a selection.

It's OK, because opening a joint bank account together just after you get married is normal.
