Hi there,
My husband and I recently submitted our application for me to sponsor him. I am a Canadian citizen and he is an American citizen. We are currently together in Alberta and he has been here /applied from with in canada with a current visitor visa. We recieved update that the application was recieved may 16th. I have 2 children from my previous marriage and we have 1 on the way. I just have a couple of questions :
1- will I jeopardize my ability to sponsor him if I move in to low cost housing? (Rent would be 30% of my income)
2- how long does it take for him to receive a work permit if we applied at the same time as the main application was submitted
3- should I update my application to inform them I'm pregnant, will this help or hinder my application?

Thank you all for any and all information you may have.

1. Provided it is not welfare low cost housing is fine
2. Mine took about 3 months .
3. You must inform them of any change.

1. Moving in low cost housing will not affect your SA unless you are on welfare or lost a job (if you lost the job you listed on your application....)
2. It depends on the number of applications they received but call center/online can tell you on which applications they are working on now.
3. Being pregnant is not considered as change in family members unless the baby is born, unless you want to update it in terms of development of your relationship but you don't need to update it as a number of the family members. It would hinder your application if the baby will be part of application (dependant children).

losing a job does not affect sponsor approval. a sponsor is not required to be employed. a sponsor can also be collecting EI since a person pays into this system for later use and it's not considered welfare. The financial aspects that affect a sponsor application are bankruptcy and welfare, not a sponsor's employment status.

I'm not sure what you mean by if the baby will be dependent children. I am the sponsor (Canadian ) and the baby will be here with me in Canada when he or she is born (when I give birth ), forgive my ignorance but I'm not sure what the other options would be with this.

Just ignore that. Your baby will be Canadian and not considered a dependent needed to be included in the application.

Hi all, just wondering. According to our account on the CIC website they started processing the application on June 9th. Does anyone else have this same time line? If so have you recieved any word yet on work permits? 18 weeks pregnant and hoping he receives his work permit soon.

Also, when we look on the CIC website it only shows processing on my sponsorship application and recieved on his PR application. Is there anywhere to view work permit? (Yes we applied at the same time as the rest of the application)

Thanks in advance ♡

We applied March 2nd, and they began processing May 23rd. Our work permit arrived (like a magic beanstalk, from absolutely nothing) on June 27th. They say within 4 months. You should expect it will be 4 months (though it may come at 3).

Also, seeings how you applied for a work permit too, I suspect you are an inland applicant. If so, here is a spreadsheet of other inland applicants and timelines. Feel free to add yourself to the New Entry tab: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Yn3BFzI4q4xAy4EW3pG4CgQz9o3EzF5b18_tcSJwBhA/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=658237024

I have heard of people having success finding it by signing up for a mycic account: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/e-services/account.asp. Personally, I didn't have any success with it, but other's have.

Best of luck!
