What does implied status mean? Does that mean that he can't leave the country until we find out the status of our application?

Essentially, yes. Implied status means that you're allowed to stay in the country, but since you have no paperwork supporting your status you might not be let back in if you decide to leave.

ok yea that makes sense....

We got married this past weekend and now we want to start the process of sponsoring him. He just finished school which means he has student loans plus he does have some back child support due to the fact that he was in school full-time. How does that affect the application or what more do we have to do for the application because of this.

The student loans won't be a problem.

The back child support could be an issue. You need a passport to apply for PR status and some countries will not issue a passport if you are behind on child support.

My husband is here now with a valid American passport. So they let him through but what other steps do I need to take regarding the back child support?

He should be fine from a Canadian immigration perspective.

Renewing his US passport could be a problem however.

ok thank you so much for your help everyone!

I was also wondering regarding custody of the children and obtaining medical exams. My husband has full custody of his 13 year old son and currently lives with my in-laws. Does he need to get a letter from the biological mother to allow him to leave the country and live in Canada? Also, with his daughter his ex-wife has basically gone off the face of the earth and will not let anyone on my husband's side see his daughter, she is only 4 what if the mother declines to do medical exam when and if we find her?
