Hi.

I am a mexican marreid with a canadian, we started the Sponsorship process in February 2020, but so far we have not even got the received letter, we are starting to worry, I have a Tourist permit so far and we already asked for an extension.

Does anyone has a similar situation? We do not want to panic.

Thank You.

This is normal. It takes around 2 months to receive a reply after submitting your application. Assume it will take longer right now due to COVID and processing time delays.

Did you apply under Canada Class or Family Class. I thought spouse cannot come in Tourist Visa until the PR processing is complete. Some of the applicants have got the AOR before a month. Not sure how much delay we can expect.

A spouse can certainly come to Canada on a tourist visa if they hold a valid TRV or eTA.

Ok, that is great. I have submitted my spouse sponsorship application. Can I apply for a Tourist Visa now? I was previously told that Tourist Visa would not be approved when Sponsorship application is being processed.

There are no rules preventing you from applying. The chances of approval are low. However nothing is stopping you from applying and some people are certainly approved.

Mexican citizens don’t require a visa that is likely why it was so easy for their spouse to join them.

We started the process after I arrived to Canada, I only needed the eTa. And I explained the immigration officer at the airport exactly what we were doing. I got a visitor record and a Tourist permit for 6 months. We asked for the tourist extetion on March, just in case. I got the approval of my Tourist permit on June, valid for 4 months.

WE GOT NEWS.

We received an Email from Immigration, letting us know that the dates for byometrics are changing due COVID, but it came with an file number on our aplication. We used the Online Tool on the immigration page with it and we found out that they did received our package. We sent it Februry 3rd, they got it February 6th, probably the confirmation is still on the mail. But now we are less concerned.
