I have an Aunt who is willing to sponsor me and initially I didn't think this would work as I didn't think it was a close enough relationship, but then i found the paragraph below in one of the pages of the CIC immigration website, I know the rules are changing all the time - does anyone know if this is a valid route?

You may sponsor ...
"Any other person with whom you have a family relationship if you do not have a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, son, daughter, mother, father, brother, sister, grandfather, grandmother, uncle, aunt, niece or nephew who is a Canadian citizen, a registered Indian, a permanent resident or whom you may sponsor"

Does your aunt have any of the following: spouse, children, parents or grandparents? If yes, then they cannot sponsor you.

hi there, thanks for your reply - she has no spouse or kids, parents & grandparents have passed away and she has no relatives at all in Canada - worldwide her closest relatives are three elderly siblings (in their 70's) who live in the UK and then her siblings children of which i am the eldest.

thanks Jonny.

I'm not sure - one of her siblings lived in Canada when she was in her 20's don't know if she got her citizenship - would it make a difference?

thanks Jonathan

Yes, it would.
because your aunt may sponsor you if only:
You may sponsor one relative, related by blood or adoption, of any age if you meet all of the following conditions:

you do not have a spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner, or one of the following living relatives you could sponsor instead:
son or daughter,
parent,
grandparent,
brother or sister,
uncle, aunt,
nephew or niece (this could be your case; however, if her sibling in UK is a Canadian citizen (see below)- she cannot sponsor you).
you do not have any of the above-named relatives who is a:
Canadian citizen
,
permanent resident, or
registered Indian under the Indian Act.
