Sponsoring Spouse who Previously had a Student Visa

Hi, my husband used to be a student, and now currently he is out of status. I am planning to sponsor him with an open work permit. He used to have a student visa and I would like to know if we still need to send the student visa papers to restore/gain his status as a student or can we just send our sponsoring papers without it since I am sponsoring him.

If you sponsor him while he is out of status then he will have to wait around 16 months for the open work permit. He won't qualify for the owp pilot.

Hi, I have a similar question. My husband will have an 8-month student visa starting this September. Should we apply for outland sponsorship before he travels or should we go with the inland route once he's in Canada? What will allow him to have an open work permit sooner? Thank you.
