Hi

I got PR last month and came here in Canada with spouse and kids. My brother is also here on PR with spouse and kids. Now i just wanted to know that what is the quickest way to call our parents over here, as they both are +70 and we would like that they live with us as no one is there with them to take care now. Although they have 3yrs multiple visitor visa and can come here whenever they want. We are worrying that what about after 3 years. May be at that time due to age or medical they wont get visa than what will we/they do?? I also have one sister living with her family but she is in another city which is very far away from our home town. I know that i can file PR on family basis but it takes atleast 5-7 years and in the mean time what are my other options for them as we dont want them to be alone for long.

Thanks in advance.

Re: How to call parents

You can keep them with you on a visit visa if you keep applying for extensions every 6 months but you would have to pay for their medical care since they would not be covered. At the same time, you can be working on sponsoring them.

Thanks Leon

Im plannning like this and ill take care of medical etc, but im worrying that this process will take 5-7 years or more and they have only 3 yrs visa. Is there any other possibilities.

Awaiting your valuable suggestions please.

Sponsorship of parents is right now taking 30 months, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/canada/process-in.asp#sponsorship and after that, depends on where they live, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/08-fc-parents.asp After their 3 year visa is up, you can still continue to apply for extensions. Some people are doing this.

How often can you apply for visitor extensions? Wouldn't there be a limit to the number of times you could do this? I'd imagine lots of people would keep extending their visas, if there was an unlimited number of extensions allowed?

At every extension, you need to prove that you can still support yourself or somebody else can support you and that you will go home in 6 months. One member on this board said she extended a 6 month visitor visa successfully for 3 years. I don't think there is a limited number of extensions allowed but they could deny it any time if they wanted to.

Start reading at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/relatives.asp You should find all the info and forms that you need on there. Currently it takes 29 months to approve the sponsor for parents, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/canada/process-in.asp#sponsorship and after that, for parents in Islamabad average 13 months, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/08-fc-parents.asp#asia

If the brother is a full time student since before age 22 and he is financially dependent on your parents, you can sponsor him with the parents but he will need to stay single and still be a student until the processing is completed or he will not be considered a dependent anymore.
