Sponsoring Parents in 2015

Hi All,

Last week I checked MyCIC account and its mentioned that background check is in progress what does that mean and how far are we from getting ppr request. How long does background check takes.

My parents did their medical in December 2016 along with PCC and we submitted landing fees in December as well

We received the medicals for my father but not for my mother . Any of you in the same situation . I have emailed NDVO but no reply yet .

A lot of times, CIC only issues requests for medical to the principal applicant. If you go to a panel physician who is e-medical enabled; s/he can check all the IME# against all family members. FYI, there will be separate IME# for each member of the family.

I would recommend you to do medical for both of your parents at the same time.

This is the most frustrating process!
I am in Canada and my folks are in South Africa.
They are doing and have done everything right so far but because the communication is between my folks and LVO and then they forward the correspondence to us, it's hard to "run the process" from here.

LVO asked for payment and receipt via email which was paid and sent July 26
Folks submitted medical certificates electronically August 22 and they have the email from Canadian medical team to confirm
they have now submitted police clearance certificates a second time

What is PP?

I have heard some people here contact their MLA and get them involved. Is this something you would suggest I do?
I just cannot stand the thought that our journey will end without PR for my folks because of the incompetence of staff at Pretoria LVO

So, where/how did you send PCC and RPRF receipt? You must have retained copies or originals. If you sent in email, there should be an automatic confirmation. If you sent by reg. mail, didn't you track your shipment? Send the PCC/RPRF copies to your LVO with explanation that they were sent before as well. Also, try to contact them ASAP beforehand for clarification.

Contact your PP and tell him/her that CIC is still looking for the medical.

Yes, such a relief... the first one (in-laws) the passports were mailed back in about a week (Ankara office). The second one (my parents), we are sending the passports to Ottawa today.

Is landing within Canada still active? Does it still take longer time than flagpoling?

I think it's still active. But it's nothing close to "flagpoling". Flagpoling entirely depends when you decide to cross border. SO, if you get the passport back today with PR Visa & CoPR; you can actually land in the evening or next day by flagpoling. On the other hand, you will need to make an appointment with CIC by calling them if you want to land within Canada. The waiting time can be months.

What's the visa issue date on the passport? I need it for the SS.
I think it's still active. But it's nothing close to "flagpoling". Flagpoling entirely depends when you decide to cross border. SO, if you get the passport back today with PR Visa & CoPR; you can actually land in the evening or next day by flagpoling. On the other hand, you will need to make an appointment with CIC by calling them if you want to land within Canada. The waiting time can be months.

Thanks. I received GCMS for my parents a month ago and my understanding is that background check would have actually started as early as March/April 2015 (before they notified me of my sponsorship approval in May). They checked Canada and US first. They only asked for police certificates from my parents' home country in August 2016 which took us a few months (~4 months) to submit as my parents have been living in Canada on visa since 2015 and the process of applying for PC from here was insanely slow. I don't think they would wait for you to submit all documents before they start the background check. It's almost ongoing from the minute they open your application for processing. I wouldn't be surprised if check with Europe/Australia/New Zealand/etc before they finalize the application and make decision, hence why the process is so slow.

Did they ask for RCMP check for your parents since they have lived in Canada?

No they never asked for that. But they asked for a detailed travel history and background since age 18 + my father's mandatory military service records (all submitted October 2016)
