SPONSORING PARENTS Future Change Of Income-after passport request

Hello,

I would like to get some ideas from other members who are currently sponsoring parents. I have sponsored my mom to come to canada from the phillipines. I just received a letter and I am being asked for more information this includes a passport request for my mom (but no medical exam request yet). As of april 2014 I will be laid off from my job. The current letter I have received is asking for tax statement from the previous year. Now because taxation in canada is end of april, I am not worry about the income for 2013 as I will make the income cut off still. I was just wondering if me being laid off april 2014 can jeopardized the whole sponsorship? Also for final issuance of visa, does immigration ask for another income statement? Thanks.

I think you're doing just fine. And for ALL of 2014, you will still have a tax assessment or Option C to give them for 2013, in case they should ask. I'd say "no", when they're finally ready to issue a visa they're not going to reopen requirements that they are already satisfied about. If this were to delay much into 2015, then just MAYBE you'd have a problem.

Change in circumstances
R134(2) allows for a calculation or recalculation of the sponsor's income if it no
longer appears to meet the requirement of R133(1)(j) for minimum necessary
income. The calculation is based on the 12-month period that precedes the day the
officer receives the information indicating that the sponsor may no longer meet the
minimum necessary income requirement. Income may only be reassessed
downward. R134(2) is linked to R133(1) in that a sponsorship shall only be approved
by an officer if, on the day on which the application was filed and from that date until
the day a decision is made with respect to an application, there is evidence that the
sponsor has total income equal to the minimum necessary income.
A calculation or recalculation may occur before the initial recommendation has been
rendered. This could include cases where there are indicators that the Notice of
Assessment provided initially may not reflect the current situation because the
income reported appears not to be sustainable.


If someone can clarify about the "income being only assessed downward?" what does this exactly mean? Thank you again for all the help!

It means that the reassessment can only reduce the income being compared against the LICO test. It can't increase it in your favour. So, if you got a massive pay rise or a promotion, that would not help you. However if you had a pay cut, that would be taken into account.
