Sponsoring my parents ---not possible anymore?!

My parents are currently living in Germany and have Permanent Residents Cards. But these are only valid until December 2012 because of the 3-out-of-5-year rule. By december 2012 they will have lived 3 of the last five years in Germany having a PR Card. Since my father is 58 years old, has a secure job in Germany and not many years left until retirement, he wants to wait for his retirement and then we shall sponsor him and my mother. He is afraid that he wont find a job in canada and will be dependant on his children financially (although he owns a house in Germany).

I doubt that this plan of waiting will work out fine as it is very likely that sponsoring parents wont be able for quite a while. Furthermore he would lose his right of getting social health insurance when losing his PR Status.

What do you think? What should my parents do?

Thank you so much!

Hmmmm, looks like they just have to wait and see?

According to this, the CIC is not accepting parental sponsorship applications for up to 24 months, starting from November 2011:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/index.asp

Which means they'll have to wait up to November 2013...

Notice that they say "up to" 24 months, which means it *could* be less than that. It's best if you all keep checking the CIC site to see updates about parental sponsorship...

Good luck to you and your parents!!

Keep in mind that it's extremely likely the rules for sponsoring parents are going to change once CIC begins accepting applications again. So just because you would have qualified to sponsor them previously is no guarantee you will be able to sponsor them in the future.

In the end your parents are going to have to make a hard choice. If they want to 100% guarantee that they will be able to retain PR status, they need to return to Canada by the end of this year.
