Hi there,

I am a Canadian citizen and want to sponsor my orphan niece from Greece. She is 15 years old and is a Greek citizen.
Would I be able to bring her in Canada while waiting for the sponsorship process? If yes, can someone please tell me what documents do I need?

Can I be a sponsor and a Legal Guardian at the same time?

Much appreciated your help in this matter.

Thank You,

Was she orphaned recently? Can you "legally" adopt her? And not just "legally", I mean REALLY! Which means you support her financially, emotionally and have really become her Mom or Dad. Otherwise, it could be viewed as an "adoption of convenience". THEN, you could sponsor her as your 'legally adopted child'.

Yes, you can sponsor an orphaned niece, as long as she is under 18 and both parents are deceased see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/family.asp
Yes, the difficulty will be that as a minor she requires a Guardian, also she would require a study permit. The application has to be processed at an overseas office.
