Hey, I posted a link on here with a downloadable form for the Korean police check. It's a sample that you can take to the police (in korean) so they know exactly what to do. The police actually thanked us for bringing it because they had some people come back and say you didnt give us the right one, etc. Just look back about 2 weeks or so through this thread to get the link.

Proof of Relationship:

I have a seperate envelope labeled "Proof of Relationship" and included; photos, a 3 page letter with ref. to certain photos (we both signed it), samples of e-mails and texts, wedding invitation, vows, greeting cards from family, a few event ticket stubs. Am I missing anything? I'm not too concerned about it since we have been together for 8 years, etc. Thanks!

On the bottom of IMM 5540 after s.17 Sponsor Questionaire: "Attached seperate sheet about details of current relationship". What did you guys do for that? I just write "see photos" but I am thinking I should make a letter? Thanks!

*currently on round 2 of checking every detail over as my wife tries to get time from work to go get the medical (severance don't do it on weekends).

Question about the police check, did your wives get fingerprinted for it? her form says 범죄경력 수사경력조회 회보서. Is this the correct one?
Don't know about the form. I don't think you need it. They have it at the police station.

My wife just went down to the police station, showed her ID card and they did the background check. No prints. It's easy. Took about 10 minutes. I had to get one done myself a week or so later for something unrelated to the PR application. Same thing. Showed my alien card, filled out a form and they printed it out.

Yeah, it's an official CIC sample so can't go wrong. Wish they had a sample for everything :D

Sounds like plenty. I did it a little different. I attached a covering letter that included all the details of our relationship, but your way should be fine as well.

The letter you've prepared should be good enough. The gist of my letter was

1. here's how we met
2. here's how our relationship developed
3. here's how we got married
4. we've been together ever since
5. here's when were coming home and how we plan to proceed after we get there

If the letter you've written covers all that you should be fine.

We have 2 different letters typed. 1 is on top of the proof of relationship docs. that begins from first meeting to now with ref. to specific photos. 2 is the 5Ws concerning establishing in Canada. Where we will live, etc.

I ended up with 4 envelopes. 1 Sponsor Forms & Supporting Docs. 2 Sponsored Spouse & Supporting Docs. 3 Proof of relationship. 4 Misc. copies of our education docs and resumes. We have a child so jusy to show we are employable, etc.

That statement at bottom of the form is not really a question. We never even addressed it in our application, as we just assumed the VO would naturally know to look at our "proofs" section of the application for this.

Actually we didn't include any separate letters at all. We just stuck to the lines provided in the form to fill out our answers of how/when we met and stuff. So there is really no right or wrong way to do the application. Depending on how strong and obvious you feel your relationship is and the proofs that you have, everyone's personal letter or even if one is included, is totally up to you!

Stupid question, but, will we get back any of the documents we send to Immigration as part of the application process? I am probably going to send invitations to our wedding, photos and such. Will we get any of them back?

Another stupid question:

On the 'Application to Sponsor and undertaking' form, question 4 of the 'sponsor eligability assessment:"

Do you reside in Canada and no other country?

Do you answer yes or no? Isn't it 'No.' because I don't currently live in Canada?

I wouldn't count on getting any of that stuff back. I can't put my finger on it but I'm sure I read somewhere in the guide where they will not send anything back

The answer for you is "no".

Stupid questions:

1 - I've asked this before but...What is the minimum necessary income?
On the sponsor evaluation list of documents to provide it says I will need to prove I have the minimum funds yet no where is there a mention of what that is. Terribly annoying. Most of our cash will not be liquid until we leave and I'm not particularly interested in having a translator charge us to translate our 4 page chonsae agreement. I know others have said there isn't a specified minimum amount, but why on earth would they say there was on the document list?

2 - What is everyone doing about the return flight needed by your spouse? I have searched the various sites for refundable tickets and found the cheapest ticket was from Van to Seattle. I have found no where that stipulates my wife must return to Korea, yet I fear an over zealous immi officer may think she may try to sneak back over the border by land.

3 - Shipping - Anyone have any good ideas for shipping breakable things and smaller quantities? My wife also wants to send every book she owns - hardly small. We don't need a container and we thought we'd send a few boxes by mail (the 2 month version) then take as much as possible on the flight. Not sure how much boxes through Korean Post are these days. Last time I shipped stuff it was no more then 50,000 won a box.

FYI - Currently on Air Can't you can bring 1 bag each and a second bag costs about 80$. All bags have to be under 23kg and a 3rd bag can be brought for 258$ (but 32kg). An over weight fee of 115$ will be charged on any bag over the limit. This was not on the web site but on a sign at the airport (their site is different and likely screwed more than a few people over if it hasn't been changed since last I went to the airport last month).

There is no minimum income requirement for spousal applicants if you have no non-Canadian kids. What part of which form are you talking about? All you need to provide is the option C printout from CRA and a letter from your employer. (see section 18 of the Document Checklist). You can ignore section 19 of the Doc. Checklist. It doesn't apply to you if you have no non-Canadian kids.

I have a refundable return ticket to Seoul. I thought about a one way ticket from Korea and a return flight to Detroit where my wife has family, but the cost was almost the same as a return ticket to Korea, so I figured why mess around with that and create a potential problem at the airport and again at CBSA.

Go back a few pages and look at my post regarding shipping. The best deal my wife found was Korea Shipping Co. Ltd.

FYI, I promised I'd report back on address changes. I managed to change my address online at CIC's website and my wife's address by directly emailing the Manila visa office. You can find out how to do it at their website. It took about 10 days for Manila to make the change.
