Sponsoring my 3 years old son who is on TRP to become PR within Canada !

Hi there,
I highly appreciate your input and experiences on this topic. Background: My wife, daughter and I are permanent residents. My son was born after we obtained our PR outside Canada (he is Jordanian, not a visa exempt national). He is now with us here in Vancouver on a TRP (Please note not a TRV ) which was issued for 8 months, expires April 2013) since I've been offered a job at UBC. Now, I would like to sponsor him to become a PR and I’ve been through the CIC website many times and through many forums to try and understand the process of sponsorship, but I'm still confused to say the least !.

I'm trying to understand: 1. What application should I use ? and 2. Where should I send it ?

CIC states if applying from within Canada use the Spouse and common-law partner application in Canada Class (I know a child is not spouse, but you can choose child in the application instead of spouse) and mail the application to Vegreville, Alberta.
Others in this forum mentioned using the family class process for people OUTSIDE of Canada and send the application to Mississauga, and choose CPP-Ottawa as the visa office... BUT the guides for this application states DO NOT PUT CPP-OTTAWA as the visa processing centre, no ?. Others stresses that Buffalo NY should be selected as the visa office if his TRP is for more than a year (not sure why)
Others warned that the application will be rejected either way and MUST be sent to Vegreville on “H and C” grounds, and that this is the only way to become PR from within Canada since the child is on TRP and his visa can’t be processed in a visa office outside Canada.

Can you please help clarify this dilemma! your help is highly appreciated

Thanks a lot
Maen

Have you phoned CIC to ask them about this? As far as I know, a child can only be sponsored inland if you are sponsoring them along with a spouse. Otherwise, you must go through a visa office. Sponsoring through your home country (the country of child's citizenship) should always work, regardless of him being in Canada.

Thanks Leon,

I have been trying to call CIC for over a week now (I'm saving this to another thread !) without luck. So what you are saying is to fill the family class application even if the child inside Canada and on a TRP, choose child's citizinship visa office and mail the application to Mississauga, correct ?
Others seem to have done the same on this forum, and they recieved a call from CPP-M that they can't process inland application and the file has been forwarded to CPP-V and then dealth with but o
n a H and C grounds (see posts by "tstarks" Re: Baby in Canada on TRP - now what is the next step to get PR?)
Thanks

I have not seen that post but if you know that to be the case, send a private message to that poster and ask about the details and just do what they did.

Thanks.. How do you message someone here ? he/she appears offline
I think you need one more post in order to gain the right to send personal messages. When you have 10 posts (I think that is the limit), click on the persons user name to see their info and at the bottom you should have the option to send a personal message. You can also reply to their thread and ask your question there.

Hello brother, did you manage to sponsor your son?, If you can share your experience, it would be great. I am in the similar situation, my son got TRP valid for six months, still outside Canada...which route I should consider, inland or outland and any benefits while I file if they are in Canada...Any help would be appreciated...thanks

This thread is more than a decade old, and the original poster not seen here since 2012. Maybe read more recent ones and start a new thread if you have questions.

There is no inland or outland for dependent children. The sponsor must be in Canada.

Are you citizen or PR? Are you or spouse in Canada? If PR and you are both outside Canada, you cannot start process. Get child insurance and apply when all inside Canada.
