Hello everyone,

I hope somebody here who has knowledge with this kind of situation can help me.
I invited my mother to come visit me in Canada, after a few months she said she like Canada and that she wants to live here permanently.
What is a good way to sponsor her?

Should she go home first outside Canada and then start the application to sponsor her or can we just extend her stay as a visitor and apply within Canada???

Please someone enlighten me.

Thank you in advance.

It will take many years to sponsor your mother. She can apply for a Super Visa, but she will need to have strong ties back `home', since she cannot legally live in Canada...yet. Since she is already in Canada, I don't know if she can apply now.

That's not always possible. Extensions are not guaranteed, and even if she does, she is unlikely able to be allowed to extend her stay for years until she gets PR. Even if she left the country for a short time, and tried coming back, there's a good chance she could get refused since they would think she's just simply doing that to extend her stay.

Are you aware that depending on the country she's from, it could take from 3-5 years from now for your mom to get PR? If you haven't met the income requirement in the last 3 years, it will be even longer. It's not a fast process.

First of all, if you're going to sponsor your mom, you need to meet specific income requirements. If you have a spouse and or children, your family size will increase, thus you will need higher income requirements. Also you won't be able to sponsor just your mom, if your dad is alive and still married to your mom, you will have to include him in the family size also, even if he doesn't want to come to Canada. That will further raise the income requirement you need.

ex) If you are single, no kids or spouse, you need at least $45K-$47K for the last 3 years (each following year has a slightly higher income requirement). Do you at least meet that amount? If not, you're going to be waiting a long time to spnsor your mom.

Also your job won't be done yet after you send in the application. During the time you're waiting for your mom's app to process, you will have to continue to meet the income requirement until your mom gets PR. If you fall below the income requirement, they could refuse the application.

Second, you have to meet those income requirements for the last 3 years. Your income has to be from in Canada, can't be from other countries.

Third, if either your mom or dad fails the medical exam, both of them will not get PR, including your mom.

The best thing to do right now for the time being, is apply for a supervisa, so then your mom can stay for up to 2 years at a time.
