hello to everyone there! I hope you can help me to clear some notions regarding on how will I sponsor my girlfriend to come with me to Canada if I am already there..

Currently, my mother is sponsoring me and my father under the Care-giver live-in Program..We are almost in the last stage of the processing..Next week, we are submitting our passports to Canadian Embassy for the visa..Now, my Mother already received a letter regarding the payment of RPRF..

My family promised me to help me to sponsor my girlfriend when I get there..They said that it will take 6 months before I can get her and I must marry her here in the Philippines..

I would like to ask you guys if you have any idea on how the processing goes in this kind of sponsorship and if possible, you can give me a time line of processing..

thank you very much!

First of all, DO NOT GET MARRIED until you have landed as a permanent resident in Canada!

After you have landed as a PR, you can go back to the Philippines and get married and then apply to sponsor you wife through the Family Class Spousal category.

Are you living with this girlfriend? If you will have been living with her for a year or more by the time you land in Canada, you will have to declare her.
If you're not living with her, land in Canada, get your PR, then go back and marry her later.

You can't sponsor a girlfriend, boyfriend, or fiance. Once you are a PR, you can sponsor a wife, husband, or common law/conjugal partner. Once you are married, then you can start the sponsorship process. It doesn't make any difference where you marry, so long as the marriage would have been legal in both countries, but you probably can't do it in Canada, because she probably couldn't get a visitor visa for Canada.

You will have your PR already since you mom made the application for you and your father so you dont need to make an application for yourself since is has already been done from what you say earlier.

You will need to do the spousal application or commom law one if applicable either in canada if she can go there on a tourist visa, or as stated you return there to get married...

thank you for your response! what is the average processing time for spousal application? Is civil marriage acceptable in the application?

btw, about PR, my mom will have her PR card, how about us?

The processing time for spousal applications depends on the visa office where the application is being processed. I assume your soon-to-be wife would have her application processed in Manila since that is the visa office for the Phillipines. The processing time there is usually 5-9 months. You can see processing times for all the visa offices here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/05-fc-spouses.asp#asia

Yes, a civil marriage is acceptable. You will need a copy of your marriage certificate (or Phillipines may be one of the places where you need to submit an original marriage certificate. I'm not sure. ) You will need to follow the instructions in the country-specific guidelines for the Phillipines here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

Yes, you will need your own PR card.

I'm a little confused because you you can get a temporary job as a care-giver, but you can apply for permanent residence in Canada if you have been working in Canada under the Live-in Caregiver Program for at least 24 months or a total of 3,900 hours within four years of your arrival in Canada. So, I assume that's what you are doing because you are talking about an RPRF.

Once you are a PR (with or without a card) you can sponsor your wife, as long as you are living in Canada when you apply and afterwards, and as long as she was not your wife or common-law partner at the time when you applied for PR and landed. If she was and you didn't declare her, you can never sponsor her as a family member now or in the future.

One more thing: Add onto the usual 5-9 months porcessing in Manila about 1-2 months in Canada for you to be approved as a sponsor.
