I am starting to do the sponsorship process for my kids, and 2 main doubts have me paused on it.
The easiest one first: Even though it's not mentioned in the checklist, when I go to the online application it shows:
"IMM 5562 (required) Supplementary Information - Your Travels"
as required. Is this just an error in the checklist?
Second one a bit harder. I need to complete the background declaration it seems even though they're minors, and asking me about last 10 years, which since they're 5 and 8 is not too eventful. However, my doubt is because it asks occupation and addresses in that period, and as we came in April 2021, for the last almost 2 years they have of course been with us here in Canada.
In retrospect, I understand it was a mistake to not renew their status every 6 months (They have visitor visas), as we were told it wouldn't really matter too much. But now I see this could have an impact being they're supposed to have address in our home country? (and technically on their documents they do).
What would you advise I enter here? They have been from 2014 and 2017 respectively, and until 2021/04 just "being babies" in our home country, and the eldest did 1-2 years of school until we left for Canada.
Now since 2021, both have been students here, and living with us in Canada.
Since you have to put all the truthful information of course, I would have to enter Canadian addresses in that section, as well as in the occupation section for studies.
But I am not sure how to exactly put this in the different forms, since some ask for current country of residence, etc. and I don't know if this should be actual/defacto or legal.
Appreciate the help.
Edit: adding some more information. We have an upcoming trip to our home country in March, and will be returning in April. Would it be better to hold off on applying until we come back, as they will have a "fresh entry" into the country, and I could maybe attach a letter to the application explaining that from Apr 21-Mar-23 they had stayed because we did not know we had to extend their status, but they have left and re-entered now?
