Hi, I need some advice, my wife and myself are permanent resident of Canada that recently returned from abroad (USA), our PR status is renewed. While we were in the USA we had a child that is now almost 2 years old (US citizen), he returned with us 6 months back, I applied for sponsoring him but I am still looking for a job and I don't have previous years tax files as we were abroad, so financially i cant give proof of income, still I am spending from my savings and can easily maintain my family for the next 2-3 years. after submitting for sponsorship my application got returned for not providing tax returns or pay stubs and letter from employer.

How can I fix this problem as my two year old child obviously cant leave his parents and travel outside Canada on his own, yet I cant seem to be able to sponsor him. (ridiculous situation).

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Here is checklist for sponsoring a dependent child: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5534E.pdf

Part B, Question 3 asks about source of income. First check box is if you have tax returns/pay/employer info if currently employed in Canada. This would not apply to you.

If not employed in Canada, then you would check 2nd box and include your financial plan or other sources of income to support the child. This would be things like documented proof of your savings, what type of job/salary you expect to get, if any family will support you, etc etc. Did you submit this with your original app?

Hi, Thank you for the reply, this must be a new checklist as the one I submitted when i sent in my application 3 months back didn't have this field, I will check this box and attach my bank accounts details and my expected salary if i get a job. another quick questions: would my offshore bank accounts be accepted as most of my money is still outside?

Typically even before any forms may have been updated, people were always able to skip the tax returns/employment info as long as they had an explanation of why they didn't have tax returns available, and provided a detailed financial plan.

If you didn't include any written financial plan, this is probably why the app was returned, not due to the missing tax/employer info which technically is not mandatory anyways.

I would include all your financial info, from Canada and overseas. Main criteria here is convincing IRCC you are able to support the person you're sponsoring.

I find this post very useful as I am also trying to sponsor my child (US citizen).
I became a PR in 2016 and returned to my home country few days after. I finally came back to Canada with my child in July 2017. I have not filed any tax returns since I obtained my PR status and I think an explanation would suffice.
One of the requirements is to provide an entry stamped passport page since my child is in Canada with me. However, the passport was not stamped. Is this normal with USA passport or do I need to provide an explanation (not sure what that would be)?

Re-entering with the kid and letting the CBS know that the application is underway will get you another 6 months to 1 yr extension. FYI
