Has anyone been in the situation or can shed some light? I live in the USA(Currently on a J-1 visa) and landed and received my PR card in August 2007. My wife had a baby here in January 2008 and we are planning to move permanently to Ontario. Will there be any issues with taking my baby across the border and then sponsoring her from inside Canada. How lenient or strict are they in making such accomodations. I will be driving by way of Niagra border. Thanks for any insights or comments.

The baby does not need to be sponsored if you are a Canadian citizen. Just go to the nearest Canadian consulate and register her birth abroad, she'll be a dual citizen.

I repeat, I am neither a US nor Canadian Citizen. I am only a recently appointed Permanent Resident!

Hi willostj,
We are in a similar situation, well not yet but we will, we are J1 and J2 is USA an we have to do the landing before April nex year and come back because my husband needs to finish his studies. We want to have a baby and so far the only thing we know for sure is that the baby as a US Citizen does not have any problem in enter with you in Canada and also you can sponsor him once you are there and It takes about 6 months to get the process done. (This was said to us by a lawyer)
Our doubts are about the medical insurance for the baby, I guess we'll have to wait those six months and then another 3 for the medical services.
I saw you posting is from May 07, have you find any other information?
I guess I will be asking you more since you are going to that process first than us.
Thank you!
