Can a non-accompanying family member be sponsored ? Actually, my wife and I are having some major issues and our application for PR is in progress. I don't know if the issues will be resolved or not at this point but I don't want to make any decision which will close all other options also. Please advise.

Sorry to hear about this possible fork in the road for you and your wife.

You MUST declare her in your PR application as being Non-Accompanying (which will also require her to have the immigration medical exam), or you will never be able to sponsor her in the future.

Good luck to you both!

Thanks for the reply. So if I declare her as non accompany family, and if things become ok, I may be able to sponsor her in the future? If I understand this correct future sponsorship will be separate new application?

Is there a hard date when application in process before which one must inform CIC of any changes in application like changing spouse from "accompany" to "non accompany". I am thinking if I should inform them about this right away or I have some time. We have recd AOR but no MR yet. Thanks very much for your help. Means a lot.

Hi,
I'm not sure what you mean by MR. But if you already have sponsor approval, and your application has been forwarded to the visa office, it's imperative you tell them of the change in status of your dependants ASAP, so they don't process visas for them and their status is correctly changed on your application. You can do this by sending a case specific inquiry to your visa office.

Oh I see. You still need to contact the visa office about the change in status of your wife. I would recommend doing a case specific inquiry.

I understand I must inform visa office but my only concern is if I must inform right away or I have time until the application is finalized.

I know I am being over optimistic but if I inform cic today and things become ok later say in a month or two, she wont be able to join me until I sponsor her via family sponsorship program a separate application.

then wait until your application starts processing and CIC starts contacting you for requests.
