Sponsor Residency Declaration

Hello again,

I´m Canadian and my wife is Mexican, since she left Canada I´ve been with her in Mexico for over a year now. Haven´t been back to Canada. As far as the gov is concerned, I am maintaining a mailing address in Canada and everything is normal. I intend on putting this info in our written letter for the sponsorship application, to help show that our relationship is genuine and also to show why I´m not working.

I´m wondering what to put for the Sponsor Residency Declaration. Do I declare that I´ve been exclusively living outside Canada? I guess my main concern is, are they meaning this has something to do with taxes etc..?

For the Sponsor Contact Information, I was going to put my Canadian mailing address etc.., should I be putting the address in Mexico? I mean, all this time here in Mexico, I haven´t declared to the Canadian gov that I am residing in Mexico because I don´t want to stop being a resident of Canada.... confused on this thing.

Well for canadian citizens, not PR they have two options:
1) is to apply while living overseas, in this case you should have a proof that when your spouse gets the VISA that you are going back to Canada, such proof can be a lease of a condo, university admission, a job offer ...etc. Also living overseas means you are legally residing as a resident and not as a Visitor
2) you can apply while you are in Canada,

Your mailing address does not indicates where you live, inside or outside, it could be any place of the world.

Declaring as a visitor to Mexico will be much easier than declaring a resident. because of the proof you have to show that you coming back.

Well spouse sponsorship is exempted from income requirement so whether you have a job or not it is not a problem, you don't have to worry about taxes, and if you didn't work in Canada the Option C form will not be available to you, all you need is to explain that you didn't work in Canada for the last year and you are on a visitors Visa to Mexico.

First, let us clear this. If you are a Canadian citizen, you can legally stay outside Canada for any length of time and still return to Canada whenever you wish. It does not matter whether you "declare" it or not.

Spousal sponsorship is a program meant to reunite non-Canadians to reside with their Canadian spouse in Canada. Hence the Sponsor should live or provide proof that they would live in Canada. Its got nothing to do with taxes.

How can you help show your relationship is genuine if you show that you are residing in Canada but your wife is in Mexico for over a year? To prove that the relationship is genuine, you would have to provide proof that you were living together during that period of time, correct?

Ok, so far my understanding is that there is no need to declare that I´m a Canadian citizen living exclusively living outside Canada, since I am just a visitor in Mexico. But in a written letter I can state that our son and I have been in Mexico with my wife all this time?

This is the thing. I can scan our passports to show that we left Canada at the same time, but how do I show that I´ve been here since then? The gov wouldn´t check to see if
I´ve returned to Canada at all?

Thanks guys!!!

Yeah in my opinion , they government are able to check, but wouldn't bother to do it because you can be touring the world as long as you want while you are still a Canadian Resident. So no worries on this
