My wife is Canadian, and I'm a U.S. citizen, and we currently reside together in the U.S. We want to move to Canada. Does she need to establish herself in Canada BEFORE applying to Sponsor me? And if it's not technically necessary, should she anyway to avoid problems? (We have children too, but we already obtained the Canadian citizenship cards for the kiddies.)

Thanks!

No, as a Canadian citizen, she can sponsor you while residing outside Canada. She must include a statement with the sponsorship/application that she will be returning to Canada when you are issued a visa and what plans she has made for accommodation, work, education.

That's great news. I do see in the Application to Sponsor (IMM1344EA) in section E, question 4,

"
Code:
Do you reside in Canada and in no other country?
[i]If you answered "NO", but are a Canadian citizen living exclusively outside Canada, you may still be eligible to sponsor. See [b]Who can sponsor[/b] in the Guide for information in residency.[/i]
"

It's the word "may" that has me a little worried. Is this a situation that often results in a sponsorship request being denied? Or is it just a matter of fully documenting our financial situation, living arrangements, and work plans?

Thanks again.

I wasn't living in Canada when I was approved for sponsorship. In our application I just outlined my plans for reestablishing in Canada.
