Hello,

I'm currently working on my application for my husband to move back to Canada with me. I'm a Canadian citizen that has been living outside of Canada for the past 18 months. My plan was for me to apply from the Country I'm currently living in Europe and wait for my husband to get approved so we could make the move to Canada together. All my friends in Canada are telling me that if the sponsor is outside of Canada it will take a lot longer for us to get approved therefore I should move back home to Canada and then apply from there to speed up the person.

Is this true?

Thank you :)

I was living in Egypt when I got married and we were planning on moving to Canada together once my wife got approved for Visa. when I looked into it. technically you are allowed to apply as a sponsor while you live out of Canada as long as you prove to the office that you are returning to Canada along your spouse soon after you get the permeant resident status. and when I looked into the proof they want things like owning or leasing property in Canada. letters from your family and friends in Canada that they know of your plans.

Short answer is I decided to go back to Canada on my own apply from there because I didn't want to risk the complication and execuses and some officers just like to ask for extra documentation and if they decide your case is "complicated" they don't have to be held to the 12 months maximum processing time. so id say if you've the option of moving to Canada first i'd do it.

Thank you for your response! I think I have enough evidence to prove that I'll be moving back (job searches, place to live, family members) etc, but I guess it is still a risk..

Can only judge by sponsor approval stage but in my case that came through quickly. So yes, they are requiring more documentation and apparently checking but not necessarily taking much more time. I think
