Sponsor Income Requirements

My husband and I are beginning the process of applying for PR.

My questions are:

1) I have been with him in South Africa on and off for the last 4 years, so my income has been significantly less than had I been working full time in Canada. Will I get denied as a sponsor because of my lower income over the last year? I am a Registered Nurse and have started working in Canada again, but the forms are asking for income over the last 12 months.

2) Ideally we would like to apply for PR from inside Canada, however my husband is an international freelance entertainer/performer, and his work requires him to travel internationally. If we apply from INSIDE, can he not leave the country at all??? The website is quite vague, not really giving an answer one way or the other. I also have yet to come across an immigration consultant that has ever dealt with Performing artists immigrating to Canada.

If anyone has any tips or can refer me to someone that has actually worked with Performing artists that would be great

1. there is no income requirement for spousal sponsorship. there are many sponsors with low or no income who are successfully approved. Financially, CIC only cares about whether the sponsor has filed for bankruptcy, has taken welfare or is likely to apply for welfare once the PR application is approved. Those with low/no income provide proof of means to financially support their spouse for 3 years. This can be done by showing savings or providing letters of support from friends and family.

2. DO NOT APPLY INLAND. South Africa has a quick processing, and the applicant can be IN Canada as a visitor while the OUTLAND application is processing. If your husband intends to travel back and forth, then your option is OUTLAND. Inland is not recommended for 99.9% of applicants, so don't even consider it. Again South Africa has a quick processing, and it's very likely the applicant can be approved in 6-8 months or LESS.

Great thank you! Yes I see that applying from Outside is 9 months faster than inside.

if you are looking at the cic website for the processing times, it's important to remember those are not averages for outland processing. the times posted reflect 80% of applications are processed WITHIN that time, so a majority are processed quicker. for a more accurate account of what to expect based on this forum's experience, find the thread specific to the visa office for your application. You will see the times real people face are substantially shorter than what is posted online.
