Sponsor Income 2020 Parents-- NOA and LICO

Hi All,

Have a strange situation. I have arrived in Canada in the middle of the year 2018 and therefore my half income is reported in NOA 2018 which is slightly less than the 2018 LICO amount. However, obviously, my 2019 and 2020 NOA s will have my total income way higher than the LICO of CIC. I have all documents (compensation letter, paystubs)that can prove my full income /year.

Do you think my Parents Grandparents' sponsorship application may get rejected because of 2018 data? Although it is reporting half of my year's income.

Yes, it will be refused.

If you don't meet the LICO amount for 2018, your application will be refused. It doesn't matter when you arrived in Canada or how much of the year you spent in Canada. What matters is what income is displayed in your NOA and whether this is enough to meet LICO. IRCC won't give you credit or bend the rules since you were only in Canada for part of the year. They will simply take what's shown in your NOA and look to see if it's enough to meet LICO.

But I read to be eligible for sponsoring parents MNI (Minimum necessary income) is considered & not LICO. am I missing anything here? MNI is arrived at by adding 30% on LICO.

income requirement from 2018 and 2019 will be LICO plus 30%. IRCC is using just LICO for 2020 because of special situation for COVID.
