Can somebody help me pleeeease? I'm a Canadian citizen and my husband is a Jamaican. My husband and I have been together for some years now and we married in June 2010 and I have applied to sponsor him for us to be together. We sent both the sponsorship papers along with the permanent residence form to the CPC office in Mississauga in Sept 2010 and I have received a letter in October 2010 of the sponsorship approval. I was told the permanent residence part of the form was sent off to Kingston, Jamaica to be processed. I called the Kingston immigration office of high commission and they wouldn't give me a straight answer, the only information I received recently was just that his papers have been received. Does anyone know how long the process is going to take for him to receive and approval? We haven't gotten any mail from the Kingston immigration as yet and their customer service is terrible. We are really anxious and feel we have paid thousands of dollars and not able to get a straight answer from on how long the process will be, they just have us hanging on nothing. Please Help me...

WOW, thanks for replying but, does know if anyone has gotten through with this process earlier?

Welcome to the waiting game with the Kingston Office.

Come join us on the Kingston Jamaica Thread!

on the thread in the link above there is a running list of all those who have/are participating...

i'll take a guess and say that our group has an average of about 10-11 months, i could be off... we've had someone go thru in 3m and someone who's now in their 24th month and still waiting... there are factors that will make it go quicker or slower...

Ours went thru in 4m, which is quick... we were living together on the island for the majority of the processing time, we submitted original documents (jamaican bc and marriage certificate) with the application itself (this is usually a request kingston makes which may add time to the processing if you haven't done it... most do not)... my husband (the jamaica) had also lived overseas previously.... not sure if any of that made any difference in how our application was processed... it seemed like a waste to have ours go thru so quickly when they knew we were together, when so many others live much longer apart... but i am thankful that it is over and done with!

do come check in on the forum and share your story/experiences... i'm sure someone can relate a similar timeline so you *might* have some idea of what to expect... of course, kingston does as they please with little rhyme or reason sometimes, so no guarentees!!!!

hope that helps some?!

Thanks chelley, wow 4 months eh, u were a lucky one. did the whole process include a permanent residence. r u living in Canada now?

The 4m was for applying for my hubby's PR, yes... I am/was the candian citizen sponsoring him... We stayed in on the island for a couple months after getting the PR visa, so my children could finish their school term (and flight prices dropped lol), but have been up here in Canada since may... We have a 13m old son together, thus the reason I was able to move to the island for 6m (mat leave :) )... We were anticipating the process to take much longer, so getting thru quickly actually disrupted the plans a bit, my intention was to go back to work shortly after returning, but I was thinking this would be closer to 10-11m into my leave, not 4 or 5!
