Sponsering my wife in India

Hi,

I am a permanent resident of Canada. Currently I am living in Toronto. I am planning to get married in the month of December 2012. After my marriage I will be applying PR for my wife. I have below 2 queries regarding spousal PR application,
1. Do I need to get Police Clearance of my fiancee after the marriage or can I apply it right away and get it before marriage too? Getting Police clearance might be a bit time consuming task. So in order to save some time, I thought of applying for PC right away.
2. Also, I am planning for 3-4 weeks of vacation after my marriage. So while I am in India, once I get marriage certificate can I mail my completed application from India or do I need to wait until I return Toronto and then mail the completed application.


Can someone please clarify my above two queries.

welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your up-coming wedding!

You can already ask for the Police Clearance for your future wife, especially if it will take time. However, be aware that the PCC should reach CPC no later than 3 months after being issued ( even if it says that that the PCC is valid for one year etc), so make sure that the rest of your application is ready ( including medicals).

AS a PR, you should be in Canada to sponsor your wife, so I would advise you to wait until you are back in Canada to send your file. You can prepare everything else, and sign everything with your wife when you are on holidays with her, but I think it's best to wait until you are back in Canada to send it.

Also one more question, since it takes 6 - 9 months for spousal PRs, is it a good idea to apply for a visitor visa to my wife after the marriage, while her PR application is in Process?

Hey Venu,

you can always apply for a visitor visa, but unfortunately most people get denied, as CIC doesn't believe that your wife will go back to India. If you apply, make sure that you have proofs that she will go back to India once her visitor visa is over, such as a job ( get a letter from her employer), registration at university etc... as many proofs as possible, otherwise most likely the visa will be denied (it's difficult for people that are married to Canadian PR or Canadian citizen to get a visitor visa).
