Hello,

Sorry if this topic has been covered but this site isn't easy to navigate.

I am a Canadian citizen who is currently working and living in South Korea.

I want to sponsor my fiance when we get married next April 2014(she is Korean).

However, because of work I will be returning to Canada in August 2014 but my wife will not be coming to Canada until February/March 2015.

I'm wondering if there will be any problems with our application since we will not be living together for about 6-7 month?. If I apply from South Korea in April 2014 do we have to stay together in Korea until our application is processed? I'm hoping to get her into Canada as soon as possible and want to minimize any delays.

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Thank you,
CSmith

No, there are no problems at all. For people applying outland, it is very common for 1 spouse to be in Canada, and the other in their home country. This is actually the whole point of the outland application process, to sponsor while not living together.

Just note that when you send in the application in April 2014, you will have to prove that you intend to return to Canada (in Aug 2014 or whenever). This could be as easy as a job offer or letter from employer.

No prob! I got married last month in Korea so if you have any questions about the process let me know.

Also note that if you have been living together for 12 months in Korea, you could also apply as common-law instead of waiting for the wedding to apply.
