My advise
Immigrants pls use other streams asides family class to get into Canada. These sponsors feel like God when they sponsor u. They guy has been deported, all well and good life continues in Africa, been deported from Canada is not the end of the world.

I think immigrants should just know their sponsor and not get involved with psycho people romantically to begin with. Because this lady was crazy. My boyfriend and I watched that documentary when I was living in the US and he was living in Canada together over MSN, and we both agreed then she was crazy. This new info just confirms it.

Speaking only for myself here, though I'm sure it applies to many of us.

I didn't want to move to Canada. I just wanted to live with my husband. Moving to Canada was a side effect. I would not have been able to qualify for PR any other way, and he would not have qualified for a US green card unless I sponsored him.

Also seconding aerogurl87, you should definitely know who you're getting involved with!

Poor Lainie. I don't know what it is but she does not inspire sympathy in anyone as soon as they see the documentary. She is a very nice, kind and intelligent woman. Even the filmmaker, who adores Lainie and really liked her ex husband as well, said that no matter which way she editted the film, she got the same response about Lainie which was negative. Lainie is far from crazy. But maybe she's like one of people we all know that we think are beautiful in person and we see a photo and they look awful. Or the other way around. Gorgeous in photos but not as pretty in person.

I don't like to hear anyone call another person crazy based on a 1 hour television show. How well do you think you can get to know someone or whether or not they are "crazy" based on 20 minutes of screen time? If that's the case then those who do think they can judge a person that way should all be CIC officers.

Interesting developments. His side, her side, and the truth. Guess which one takes the most hits?

People need to know who they're marrying. And I know marriage is all about love etc etc but to me it most certainly does not mean abandoning all the senses God gave you.
You make good sense, Charlie, but since when has good sense ever played a part in romance? More then 60% of marriages end in divorce, and most of these relationships have few of the stresses that afflict inter-cultural, inter-country relationships. So, when a PR lands and then the relationship fails, don't rush to blame the PR for faulty judgment. The inability to doff the rose-coloured glasses until after the hormones die down is a normal human frailty.
