Hello Friends, landed in Calgary a few days back and am trying to settle down. As expected, we did find a cultural difference, we admire it and will surely adapt to this within no time.

A major difference we observed within a few days here was that unlike Asia, say India, where we tend to socialize a lot, here it was different. I was told that here, people do not have time to socialize because all are busy (most of us work). Having said this, I am sure there must be many Home-Makers who are living with such a perception.

We fully respect everyone’s privacy and style of living but are trying to utilize this excellent forum to interact with someone who shares a similar thought. If any home-makers are interested, can we try to socialize with each other, if time permits, so that make our new home, Canada, a much more enjoyable place to stay rather than staying in isolation (again as I say, the term is relative – no disrespect to anyone’s way of living – some of us enjoy privacy and some want to socialize? If yes, those interested, let us network.

I hope this message does not offend anyone, if it does, apologies.

If you want to socialize, go to church, mosque, Hindu temple or other religious meeting places. If you're an atheist, go to a local YMCA or other places that help new immigrants.

Not only homemakers, you can chat with retirees and senior citizens if you find them in your neighborhoods.

someone told me to do volunteer works :)

Hey Grouvvy,
I just read on another thread that there is a site called meetup.com - there are many groups there who are activity oriented - so u can chose to go hiking trekking song dance book club etc and make new friends. Some groups charge fees some are free. Check it out, maybe it can help.
Again I read it and I have not landed in canada yet, so just telling u what I heard

I also suggest meetup.com. I haven't landed in Canada either, but I have used meetup.com when I was in London, UK. I met a lot of people from there, whom I am still friends with and are looking forward for me to land in Canada so that they can visit me. ;D ;D ;D
