Thanks everyone else for the advise.
Yeah I think I'll contact the V.O. as soon as we get some sort of communication from them though.
Don't want to do it before that and complicate matters and/or delay the process.

Thanks everyone. Genuinely do appreciate all the feedback given. You've all been immensely helpful during this already crazy mentally draining process so far.

I think it's interesting that people are advising you to send CIC a photocopy because if they have the original how are you supposed to photocopy it? Lol

I would say as soon as you receive your first communications from your visa office respond to the email and let them know your mistake and that you need that document returned to you at the end of the process. Then when you get PPR I would put a written letter requesting that they return the birth certificate with the passport.
Lol..
Precisely. I think people assumed I already have/had a photocopy of the original, which might be a fair assumption, but a wrong one since I unfortunately don't.. :(

I'm going to be doing exactly what you suggested :)

Yes the immigration roller coaster is not for the faint of heart for sure :). Most people get back their entire packages at the end of the process with all of the documents, photos, etc. intact. Having said that, in your particular case, your approach is a good one. Blessings.

The very first rule is "do not send anything to CIC that you don't keep a copy of yourself." If they ask for originals, you should always keep a copy.

lol at unwritten application filing rules. I myself photocopied everything, not for that reason but because if they tried to say that I didnt send them something I would have proof that I actually did send it.

Anyways, even if he had made a photocopy sending it to them doesn't guarantee that they'll send the birth certificate back. I really hope that they will abide by his requests and that he gets it back, but having a photocopy or not, won't solve this problem.

It's also different country to country because my husband is Costa Rican and in Costa Rica they don't issue fancy permanent birth/marriage certificates. It's just an 8.5x11 with the information and a couple of gov't stamps & signatures on it. You can go to a gov't office in any major city and get another one free of charge. When I asked my lawyer to get these documents for me (I was here in Canada) he sent me three copies of each. lol So yeah I sent CIC an original of each. But it sounds like in the OP's case it would be really difficult to get another birth certificate issued, which is really unfortunate. For our Canadian ones you can order new ones on the internet for like $50. You have to have all the information but you can still do it. Too bad Pakistan doesn't offer that service. :(
