Well I have been accepted for my P.R. Status. Sadly I am still waiting on my marriage certificate. It said it could take up to 6-10 weeks before I get it. Who really knows at this point. Do I call them to inform them of the change or do I have to wait till I get my marriage certificate before I can do anything???

Also, can I apply for my work permit now that I been accepted for P.R. status or do I have to wait till I go to Canada??

I do not want to be bared from canada for 5 years... :'(

I do not think I will be changing my name but in case that it does will I have to apply for a new Permanent Residency Card??? I might change my name to his last name sense the marriage certificate will take awhile.

Since you applied Outland, you have to wait until you land as a Permanent Resident to be able to legally work in Canada, but...congratulations anyway!

Also, until you actually have your marriage certificate (to send to CIC), nothing will change or move forward with your `landing' appointment/interview.

I didn't think your common-law application was going to make it, but it sounds like you got married along the way, which is what really saved you!

But they didn't know I got married. Not yet anyways. I got married last month on the 14th XD. I don't even have the certificate yet. rofl! I didn't think I was going to make it either!

So I have to wait till I get to canada before I can apply for a owp? Does it take a long time?

So I need to wait and send the certificate to them then. Then I can attempt to move there right?

Wait...so your common-law application has been approved? If it has, you don't even need to really wait for the marriage certificate, if you receive your CoPR document in the mail. As soon as you have the CoPR, you can come to Canada and land. At that point, all you need to do is get your SIN and then you can work. No work permit needed at all.

Already here
Since your last name haven't change since you applied, just use it until you arrive here in Canada and change your last name here (after you've got your cert of course :) ) bring extra birth certificate in case they ask for it.

No need for work permit if you are already a PR.

Hope these helps.

Yes my common-law status has been approved! But the problem is I have to wait because it says that I have to tell them about my change in status before I become a p.r.

I am glad I know that I don't have to apply for a owp. That helps a lot!

Amazing that CIC approved your application, since the ONLY proof you said you submitted (of living together) was a letter from his mother...or was it from each of your mothers? Either way...that has to be a record for the least amount of proof EVER submitted!

You'll undoubtedly have Condition: 51 on your CoPR, but...I'm sure you don't even care about that. ;)

Condtion 51? whats that.

All I see is I have to be there by may. I sent in letters from my mom and his. Pictures of plane tickets and all the visitor records I have.

I also sent in friend letters, very few pictures, some emails, things of that nature. But yeah I was worried because I didn't have a lot of proof.

Yes. You sent absolutey ZERO evidence that you and your sponsor had lived together for one full year, to be deemed Common-Law. The fact that you are now married, but CIC isn't even aware of it [yet], only adds to the uncertainty of why they approved your application.

Oh...Condition 51 will mean that you and your husband must stay together (living together) for at least 2 years before it is removed.

Having said all that, congratulations are still in order. Let this be a prime example of how someone can be approved with very little [if any] real proof!

Wow...to say that you're lucky is a real understatement!

The visitation records and `the tickets' (airplane?) did nothing to prove cohabitation with your sponsor.

like I said the visitor records, plane tickets, and letters from friends and family was all I had for when I was up there.

I am not quite sure which one approved me. I sent it to Mississauga like it said

Have you received your CoPR in the mail yet...or have you already landed by now?

I have received the PR thing in the mail. It says I have to be there by may. I finally got my marriage certificate in the mail. I have to inform them of my change in status before I become a P.R. in Canada. Do I make a copy of the marriage certificate and send it to the P.R place??? Or can I wait till I land in Canada to tell immigration??

Also I am hoping to leave feb 14th, I have the ticket and everything. I wanted to wait till I get income tax done before I leave. I am not sure if I left sooner how to file for income tax. XD!!! I am also worried about work. I know I need to get a SSI? Is that what they have??? Does it take a long time to get one so I can start work?
