Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but I made a search and nothing came up. I'm a Canadian living in Peru at the moment however my wife and I are planning on moving to Canada soon and we're getting our documents ready. When I decided to move here to live my wife already had a small business and since being here I have joined in helping her. With regards to the sponsorship I haven't filed any taxes in Canada since coming here (2011) but can prove making around $30k/year CAD with about $50k CAD in savings. The problem is the business and bank accounts are all in her name. Do you forsee this being a problem or is just showing the amounts and saving sufficient? Thanks for your time!

You can earn nothing and be an eligible sponsor. Send your last notice of assessment or option c from 2011 to show you werent claiming benefits. Include any tax returns youve done in peru. And then write a letter of explanation regarding the business and why everything is in her name. Then attach bank statements as proof.

Thanks for the response. So a letter explaining why everything in her name will be sufficient? Including the tax returns in her name? Also as the taxes etc will be in the local currency when I get all my documents translated should I get the translator to change them to CAD or keep them as they are?

I wouldnt bother explaining the currency change seeing how it fluctuates so much.

Id say its fine. If nothing is in your name at all then the only way to show income is with her docs and an explanation why everything is in her name.

You should still call cra though and get your last notice of assessment mailed to you though. Or print it out from your mycra account if you have access.
