Hello,

Last week I received an update request from the Consulate in Tokyo. They are requesting for medicals, police clearance, and Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF).

But the RPRF.... how should I pay it ?

The Japanese consulate website says:
F) Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF)
(fees for applicants in the family classes paid to CPC-Mississauga in Canada; all others to the Embassy in Japan)

However the letter from the embassy says "The fee cannot be paid in Japan". (?!)

Then I searched for this info in CIC website and found that:
- Payment online only applies to Family Class and others but not to Skilled worker class
- The page for Skilled worker class refers to processing fees that should be paid to the CIO and is not clear how and where to pay the RPRF. Or at least it's not clear to me.... :-[

so... if someone can illuminate me on this, I'll greatly appreciate it !

PS: I wanted to post the links where I found the info but apparently I'm not allowed to.

Hi, you need to pay the RPRF in Japan in Japanese Yens. Details here:

Thanks, I saw the website before, but as I said in my previous post,

the letter from the embassy says "The fee cannot be paid in Japan" (it is a handwritten remark)

So, why are they contradicting themselves???

If I make a deposit at their Citibank account in Japan it means I am paying in Japan and not anywhere else.

Still very confusing... :-[

This is strange. If you are in Tokyo, I suggest you go to the Visa counter at the embassy in person and ask for clarification. The Japan office is really green as they have just started processing PR files and there might be confusions on their side.

Hi Yachiyo-san,

I was going over Japan-related posts and found yours.

I recently received the request for medicals, passport and RPRF from the visa office in Tokyo.

They made no reference to paying outside of Japan, so I deposited the fees in Citibank Japan.
I followed the website instructions so I assume there will be no problem.

wpc71: FYI, the visa counter doesn't answer questions in person or on the phone -I've been there trying to ask things...
If you want to ask something, you should do it by email or fax, putting all your relevant personal details and application category.

Yachiyo: I think you should just pay at Citibank Japan, but if you still want to enquire, I would suggest sending a message with a compelling title like "Where to pay RPRF? NEED CLARIFICATION URGENTLY" or something like that. I bet they'll reply quickly, as it is about money!

Planning to land on June 28th if God permits.
I asked my lawyer and he said that you can pay through citibank in Japan and that is okay. Although, perhaps best thing to do is just go to the visa office and confirm with them.

Hi all,

Thank you very much for your replies and ideas!!!

I sent them an email and got a reply within one day.

And yes, the RPRF for Japan applicants should be paid at Citibank Japan, except only for Family Class, like it is written in the website. They apologized for the confusion on their side.

Good luck to you too.

Hi Yachiyo,

It is good to hear that you got your concern solved!

By the way, I realized we have similar timelines!

I also know two Japanese people in the same situation... I guess we are a bunch who got our files transferred from Manila.

Regards!

Really? I thought that I was just unlucky because my application took so long.
I was very frustrated about Manila office and their lack of responsiveness, but I am kinda relieved for knowing people in the same situation.

Thanks and Best wishes!
