I thought the SVO along with other visa offices were going to speed up a little. after all we are all falling behind due to their strike.

My situation is I got married in 2008. I was in Bangladesh the whole time. Moved to Canada September 2012. I have a son who has gotten the Canadian citizenship and passport. Obviously my son lives with his mother (my wife) as he is only 3.5 years old. My expectation is once they start processing my file it will be completed vary rapidly. but for that the SVO must start processing the files. It's unbelievale how sluggish their movement is.

Most applications become slow if they have red flags, missing documents, an interview request, etc. I've already seen a couple people from Singapore VO get their visas in just 6-8 months, and reading their backgrounds, it seemed they had virtually no red flags, strong relationship , etc.

I think you are not 100% correct as SVO is working. I agree with you that Application can be slow down if there is any red flag and couple of applicant getting their approval in 6-8 months, but if they are very lucky and the % is very low (not even 1%). Most of the applicants application is clear, no red flag, no missing doc and no interview required but still they are suffering. I can give you my example, there is nothing missing and I applied in May 2012 but still no news for PPR. I checked my GCMS notes and all are ok. I did my re-med almost 4 months but no update yet. Can you feel my pain? I want to live with my hubby. But CIC/SVO is dittached me from my hubby for long time.
Its my opinion, spouse sponsorship visa's dicision should not take 6 months and in between time visa office should take dicision that applicant shuld approve/refuse.

Waiting for 17 months now....No red flags..GCMS says "Recommend Passed" on eligibility...with good comments

So yea your not really correct.....My file is sitting at the final visa officer for 13 months...and he didnt touch...HOw do i know? Cause i ordered GCMS notes 3 times...and its exactly the same...

Everything depends on the Officer..some take advantage of the processing timeline...and some acts on it and finishes the case....

Before the strike they did not work enough to process files because they said that our payment(salary) is not equal to our job, therefore they worked slowly and keep people waiting for 26 months. Yes infact they take advantage of 26 months. Since the previous Minister of immigration was somehow happy with that situation, there was not any enforcement tools to ask them about the processing time. So practically employer and employees were happy and was not any thing wrong for them. Just bad luck people :( who wait to join their families. This is the whole story. I have strong news that whole processing time for them if they work regularly (not even fast) all applications must be done within 4-5 months(pessimistically).

I strongly agree with you. Spousal sponsorship visa dicision should not take more than 6 months. Almighty please bless all of us.

Hi all,

My wife application was transferred to Singapore on October 30, 2012 and since then I have received no news from them. I knew that I needed to do something so my wife tried to apply for the visitor visa, with little hope to get this visa. Surprisingly, she has been granted the visitor visa yesterday after 3 weeks of processing from Ho Chi Minh visa office!

I have a strong belief that she will get her passport request in a month or two, but it might turn out the passport request will be asked when she is already in Canada visiting me. My question is if she can submit her passport directly from Canada to Singapore office?

Thanks!

Yes she can. Here is my suggestion, send the passport from Canada and when you receive her passport with visa then she should apply for a us visitor then she has to just cross the us- Canada border and come back again to be a permanent resident

Hi Davidsuchet,

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any experience or know anybody who has done this in the past? I have read in some posts for the visa-exempt countries, that they don't need to send passport for visa stamping but receiving COPR in the mail.

I know some family who have done that. No that is not true. SVO will issue a new( immigrant) visa on your passport and as long as you are not enter to Canada with your immigrant visa you are not a permanent resident.

visa-exempt means the holder of the passport is free to enter to a visa-exempt country just for visit purpose not work. study or immigrant

I don't intend to hurt anyones feelings, but fact of the matter is government employees are the most laziest worldwide. They work the least, get paid enough with holidays, sick days and pension plan etc. I hate them all. Processing some papers for immigration shouldn't take long at all. The canadian government is doing this to all of us, just because there were a handful of people who cheated the system. This is unfair. Unfortunate for us that we are weak people and we can't even protest.

Actually my wife is from Vietnam, and Vietnamese needs to go through the IOM Centre. The IOM will take a fee to send the passport to Singapore, so there will be no freedom of sending passport yourself directly to Singapore without IOM intervention. That's all I know.

Hi Kevin09, I'm a Vietnamese wife whose spouse sponsorship file was transferred to Singapore since May 2012. I was also granted tourist visa since May 2013 and I'm currently in Canada with my husband since June 2013. Before I travelled to Canada, I had the same concern as you do now and looked for some clues in this forum. I saw a forum member whose wife is Thai and she was also in Canada with tourist visa when she had passport request, and she could send her passport through mail to Singapore, and received the passport with CORP by mail back.

So I think it is possible for your wife and me to do the same. When your wife arrives Canada, remember to update your wife's new Canada mailing address to Singapore (which will be as same as yours). Your wife can also do re-medical test at an authorized panel physicians in your Canada province or city. The only problem in this situation may be that Singapore will request the new Vietnam police certificate number 2 when they request passport. I did prepare for this situation before I travelled to Canada by getting my new police certificate on June 2013. Unfortunately, it expires after 4 months now so I would have to manage to get a new one in the future.

Don't be so sure to guess your wife will get passport request in the next 1-2 months after she travels to Canada. My husband and I also hope the same but we are still waiting. I also know a Vietnamese wife who is here in Canada with a tourist visa since December 2012 and she is still waiting too.

This long waiting process is very tough for my husband and I but the good thing is now I can be with my husband everyday and we are just hoping for the best.
